Description

Back in the 60's, I played in a jazz combo that worked the bars in our town. At one of our usual haunts was a regular customer whose first name was Plum. I had never met anyone named such as he. Plum always arrived in an advanced state of intoxication, accompanied by a former prize fighter who everyone called "Canvas Back". Plum often boasted of being a colonel in the army during World War II and usually flashed a wad of money that he claimed was a part of a major officer's pension. His cohort addressed him as Colonel_"Colonel Urinal". Whenever Plum showed up, he requested "My Wild Irish Rose" which he sang terribly as we played it. One night, Plum flashed the wad once too often. His body was found under a bridge over the Chippewa River. He was rolled and beaten to death. I recently found a CD with some models I had saved from around 1999. This character reminded me of what Plum probably looked like back in the forties. This one's for you, Plum, wherever you are. Thanks for viewing!
