Description

Full size view recommended, to see the details. This is my second image in my "Giants" series (link to the first one below). This scene was my record, in terms of number of polygons in one scene. This one has around 300 billion polygons. Yes, billion, not million. The terrain was manually prepared in GC2, including rivers, lakes and roads. That was most of the work in this image. Then I exported the tiff files: one height map for the terrain, two distribution map for the rivers and lakes (one mask and one depth), another one for the roads. In Vue, I used the height map to create the terrain and used the distribution maps to drive the material mix (soil, rock, water). In PS, I created another distribution map for the villages (which includes streets...) that I used in Vue as density map for the houses ecosystem. So, this terrain has several ecosystems. There was no manual painting, "just" prepare the ecosystems and click populate. You gotta love Vue ecosystems! :-) Thanks for watching! First image in the series: thumb_1714990.jpg

The scale of this image is very impressive, but even more so are the details. Wish I could zoom in even further.

Interesting. 3x10^9 polygons. =) That's a lot of memory and computations. Since I've programmed 3d rendering engines in C++, I have an idea how crazy that is. Good job! (5)

Wow, impressive indeed! The technic part is too far away for me to understand, but i like the pattern made by the river that drives right to the skull. The villages contrast with the skull, as we are more used to imagine a giant skull in a desertic place, but it's a good idea to break the classic stuff :) I agree with ArtPearl, i would like to zoom in ^^ And pardon me if i pass for a goose, but what is GC2?

Excellent detailed work! I've played around with similar concepts in Bryce and Carrara, but not Vue...yet. No limits in Vue, what potential!

Holy cow! Very impressive landscape, masterly done as all your artworks. Thanks for the detailed explanation of the how-to. Probably you can create a tutorial with images for the Vue tutorial section. I'm pretty sure there are a couple of people who'd be interested in it.

This is so brilliant and real, as if I can just land in this scene and start walking around. I'm sure my comuter would just fall over if I asked it to render that many polygons. 5_plus

Excellent! Love the dizzying perspective! It's very obvious a lot of work went into this render!
