Description

March 29 World Wildlife Fund's Earth Hour is catching on across America following the tremendous success of last year's event in Sydney, Australia. This global phenomenon will spread across six continents in 2008, including hundreds of communities. Chicago will serve as the U.S. flagship city for Earth Hour in 2008, with Atlanta, Phoenix and San Francisco joining as leading partner cities. But everyone throughout the US and around the world is invited and encouraged to turn off their lights for an hour on March 29 at 8 p.m. local time - whether at home or at work, with friends and family or solo, in a big city or a small town. What will you do when the lights are off? Why not change out those old energy-wasting light bulbs to new, inexpensive and efficient compact fluorescents. Earth Hour is also a perfect time to consider what you and your family can do in the days and months to reduce emissions and live more sustainably. To alter the course of climate change we must act now. The U.S. is the world's leading emitter of carbon dioxideĆ¢ļæ½ļæ½over 20 tons per person every year. One person committed to reducing energy consumption can make a difference, and millions of us working together can change the world. One hour, America. Earth Hour. http://www.earthhourus.org/ http://planetgreen.discovery.com/ * * * Hope everyone, not just here in the States, but globally will consider doing this ! ....we all need to work together to save our Mother !!! Reduce, Reuse, Recycle ! Y'all have a great day *S* ~ Love & Hugs ~ Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket * Mina * Not sure who to credit the BG for this....somehow I've managed to lose this info...if anybody recognizes their BG, gimme a holler and I'll put your name in lights :o)

Aplausos mil Impeccable accomplishment my friend, of great impact reflectivo about the destruction of the earth for the man. He/she had wanted that hovessem larger movements than they were questioned are really intelligent beings that we have the power to destroy our own home, just for greed. Applause thousand

Or alternate title "Its later than you think!" Awesome image as usual! Warning: Climbing up on soapbox. Run away now while you can! :O) I agree with the whole lets save the planet thing, but I question the wisdom of changing over from conventional energy wasting light bulbs that are much less of an environment waste hazard than the tooted florescent bulbs which contain trace quantities of mercury, ending up in the landfills to expose us to new long term poisoning risks because people (being people and that has to be factored into the equation - you can not take people out of the whole part of nature thing or it just will not work) don't know or don't care enough to dispose of the fbs properly. Much like what is already happening with all those new high end lithium and nicad batteries, etc., getting dumped instead of recycled properly. We tell ourselves we care, that we are doing better, but sadly (unless we are really committed to doing what we have to do and not just rendering lip service) its same as it ever was. :o(

Wonderful dedi Mina and thanks for bringing this up. I only heard about this yesterday for the first time and think turning the lights off for one hour to help people realize what is going on is such a small thing to ask. The first thing I did in my home was to replace all the bulbs with the energy efficient one's

You said it girlfriend and quite eloquently I might add! I have been an eco-activist since 1968 and for so many years no one wanted to listen. Now I hope everyone will heed the call! It is so easy in this internet age to make a difference with just a click of your mouse...great changes have been made by on-line activism. If anyone is interested in the numerous sites that have daily petitions to sign that DO go before our legislative assembly and DO make positive change..send me a message and I will send you a list of sites. A site that has a variety of actions to take is http://www.care2.com/ Thank-you Mina for this message and for allowing me to rant:) And for your beautiful artwork which always blows me away!

Too much hurry. Moms don't stay home with babies and the sound of children playing after school is extinct. But everyone needs to be traveling somewhere on the slabs emitting fumes our system can no longer take. Excellent image and message!
