Description

I was moderately successful in selling my early oil-paintings - I only have a handful left. My late mother once said to me, "Everybody else has got one of your paintings - you never do one for me!" She was only half-serious - but I took it to heart and made this one ... She wrote [about me] Virgin clay Moulded with love Gentleness and compassion Folded in Dreams of tomorrow Dimpled hands clutching at my heart-strings Now grown big, creeps beneath my elbow Guiding me through life’s highways Remember, son, I love you well So remember me in the dead of night As we went hand in hand through life Now they are gone and in their place Nothing but despair: but, at least, There are marks to show that I passed through

My mother was a teacher so I was just a height attained on a grading scale and missing trophies in a showcase. Nice that you could feel this private setting.

This made me cry. I can't truly express the feelings this evokes in me. Your mom's love is very evident. Yet the feelings of despair she felt, as if she might be forgotten are sad. We don't forget those we love, or those who have loved us. You are a living legacy to her, and her love. This is so very lovely and vibrant. I am sure she loved it very much. Lea
