Ridge Fire! Every year forest fires in the United States destroy or damage sufficient timber to build houses for the entire population of a city of the size of Washington, D.C.; New Orleans, Denver or San Francisco, according to a statement issued by the Forest Service, United States Department of Agriculture. The average lost in forest and land each year would equal a ten mile wide stretch of land reaching from Washington D.C to Denver Colorado. 81 percent of all forest fires are caused by human carelessness or arson.
