Description

Many times, I get the idea for an image from viewing another. This was one such case. I was looking at my image "The Nightmare"... thumb_1505511.jpg ... and wondering what else could I do with it and I thought about using the same basic composition but changing materials, lighting and pose, for transmitting a completely different mood (I also changed the camera settings just a little bit for better view of the ground near her feet). The terrain is the same. Instead of rocks in the air we have rising water drops and instead of rocks in the ground we have plants. Instead of crisp clouds in the middle of the sky, we now have fluffy ones in the horizon. Before we had a hot, red environment but she seemed to be cold and tense, now the atmosphere seems colder (more blue component) but she seems happy and relaxed. Before the environment was harsh, now it's soft. Well, just having fun! :-) This picture was awarded Picture of the Day at e-on site, on "September 9, 2007", and it was used in their newsletter of September 14.

I love this one, the water going upward is so surreal, the droplets look like parachutes coming down.

Really good contrast between this one and the other. It gives the idea of water vs fire (the redish feelings). As usual, you're not good only in technical aspects of renders, but also (and sometimes it's what is important and leads the emotion) in giving a tangible mood of your pictures. It has a name, it's called Art. ;)

That is a very lovely dream. The upside down drops are such a neat idea! Particularly interesting to compare with the nightmare image. Just an example of a fascinating detail I liked - in the nightmare she stands in a very awkward pose, with feet pointing inwards, if she steps she will stumble. Here she is posed very gracefully - looks like she is nearly dancing...

i love the contrast with the previous image, and how you've captured a sense of peace and contentment as strong as the anxiety and pain in the previous image. foliage, water and sky are all technically flawless, and your lighting and composition are perfect. the figure's pose in this could be looser and more graceful for your message. right now her feet are crossed and look overlapping, so she looks off-balance. her legs and body are almost perfectly straight; with a little (not too much) more movement away from perpendicular would make her much more fluid and relaxed looking. the drops of water are distributed and scaled perfectly, with a wonderful water shader. the shape could have been varied a bit (say 3 or 4 different ones) to make it look both more natural and more analogous to the nightmare. imho, this picture shows me the first use of programmatic lens flare that doesn't (in my eyes) completely cheapen the image. still, it would look much more realistic and much more deliberate and customized if it were postworked some to make it softer, more like a real lens flare and less like a default filter. altogether a beautifully surreal piece with gorgeous skies. i hope you share some of your techniques some day.
