Description

I am just trying out my new Olympus Evolt E500. This is one of the hanging baskets in my front yard. It was shot in the shade and without a tripod. I wanted to post the image as it came from the camera, without any processing, but I had to resize it and increase the compression to fit the site size restrictions. Other than that, no other changes were made. Yep, I see the graininess, but I am still pleased. It was shot at ISO 400, f8, 1/125, 82mm. Thanks for looking. Comment if you are interested. This isn't meant to be a piece of art.

Beautiful, Keith! I'm envious of such a lovely hanging basket! I can kill silk flowers:) I see now where you get some of your great floral color combos!

Keith it is just a lovely image! I agree that is a lovely set of colored petunias (I think that is what that is). I am with Pannyhb, I can kill silk flowers. I have tried to plant several flowers this year and killed almost all of them! Have fun with the camera, I look forward to more wonderful images!

As a former photo hobbyist informed with Nikkon material, I note that Olympus which had very good objectives, does not lose the hand. With the adjustments which you indicate, I am sure that if there is grain, that comes from the film 400 ISO (one said ASA to my time) the grain in any event was well attenuated by the compression of the image. It is an excellent photograph, even if it is not a chief of work!

Congrats with your new super camera, LOL. I am using the same one since 2 months, and already had a lot of fine moments with it. I suppose you got the dual lens kit too? I hope you get to enjoy it a lot! This is a lovely showcase image, good colors and definition. Now go try the next thing... ;o))

....well, well! This is quite a step up, Keith! ... can see right away that you won't be making any fractals for the next few days. :) Enjoy all the time spent learning in the days and weeks ahead. I'm jealous, I want a real SLR when I grow up. Nice shot, btw. :)

My! It sure makes a statement for Olympus! Very nice handling of contrast and light across the image, and the colors are true and crisp. You've got a winner in this photo, and in the camera too. Lori will love this - she's an Oly owner and fan too.

Wow that is some basket of petunias. I have a large garden but don't have much luck with baskets as I forget to water them.!!. I'm blowed if I can see any grainyness in this superb shot.
