I'm Jan. Born 10 miles south of Newcastle. Lived there for the first twenty something years of my life before moving south. Living around London now but even though I've lived in the south longer my heart still in the north.

Me from Birtley!

Sunderland

By the way, love cups of tea, crumpets, toasted tea cakes, stotties (which are not available in the south :( ) and the French accent. 😄

Hmmm... this thread, with all it's talk of tea drinking, has made me determined to switch back to drinking tea for a bit, in place of my habitual instant coffee fixes.

Tetley builders, because that's what is provided in my workplace kitchen... and I just won't have time to source some better stuff.

And I thought Scottish cuisine was just deep-fried Mars bars and bottles of Buckfast! :)

Well, yes... but the higher end eateries will arrange your deep fried mars bars in a "tower" stack, with a drizzled Buckfast jus around it.

😉

And don't forget tablet !   Surely the chosen sweet of claymore wielders - hell even making it is hazardous!

One of my personal favourites is Cranachan: oats, cream, whisky and raspberries... it's almost healthy!

Hey, I say it like I hear it pronounced! Don't blame me if you Brits can't pronounce your own words correctly!

Yeah but if you're a Kiwi, you say "fush" instead of "fish" so your opinion don't count.  ;)

I spent many holidays in the UK, mostly in Scotland and I must say Scottish food is better than English food : at least it tastes like, eh, something. Some of the ingredients you can even identify.

I guess it's what you need after a game of another Scottish invention, golf :

The worst food (and I use the term in its broadest sense!) I've ever had was a Scotch pie in Durness. I had the idea that a genuine Scotch pie from Scotland had to be better than any other versions. Never have I come so close to barfing while eating

Never been able to face a Scotch pie since.

There was a Saturday Night Live skit several years ago with Mike Meyers and (I think) Sean Connery as the guest where father and son ran the Mc Mac Shop.  Their slogan was:  If it aint Scottish, it's crap.  Funny stuff, as I recall.
