She was so lucky, they all said. New bride to the most famous sculptor known, he had swept her off her feet whispering sweet tales of her as his ultimate muse. He would make the most lovely art of her, he said. She would be immortalized. He wanted to begin work on his masterpiece the moment they crossed the threshold, she shouldn't even change out of her dress. She was overwhelmed with excitement and anticipation - couldn't wait to see the beautiful marble sculpture she would inspire. His house was cluttered with statues of his past muses, women, animals, birds - all in the most breathtaking detail. He gently posed her, the most loving and awestruck look on his face. "You are so beautiful, you will be the most amazing yet". She glanced from side to side, frozen obediently in her pose, when she saw a soft green glow begin near the bottom of her dress. How strange, she thought, where are his tools? That was when she realized that she suddenly couldn't move. She felt as if she were a statue herself! She looked again at the green glow and saw that it was a magical flame coming from his hands, and wherever it touched turned into the smoothest marble. She opened her mouth to scream, the last thing she managed to move, realizing that he was immortalizing her in the truest most horrific sense, still gazing at her with so much love. The magic climbed to her face, her vision obscured when one eye became marble, her scream frozen for all time. Just like all his sculptures from the past that lined the walls.... ever living.... always screaming.... forever immortal. This piece was created in Poser 7 and Photoshop Elements 7. I worked over the past month on several concepts that didn't make the cut. This particular concept took me two weeks and many revamps. Eight separate renders went into its creation. My inspiration came from wanting to capture the moment one realizes that they have loved and married the thing that will be the death of them. I wanted the sculptor, even as he is turning her to marble, to be loving instead of sinister, as someone killing you out of love seems much more terrifying to me. Inspiration for the statues came from the Weeping Angles of Dr Who (the best monsters ever), although my statues are the victims not the monsters. Thank you for taking the time to read and view my labor of love. May your Halloween be happy and scary and perhaps even a bit disturbing!
