I'm sure you've heard the one about Bloody Mary. It was very popular when I was in Elementary School. If I remember correctly, it went something like this: “If you say 'Bloody Mary' in the mirror ten times, she'll appear in the mirror. And if you're bad, she'll totally kill you.†“Nuh-Unh.†“Yeah-huh. So-and-so totally did it, and she said that Bloody Mary was all gross and covered in guts and stuff.†“No way. So-and-so is such a liar.†“It's true! My cousin's-neighbor's-mail man's-dog walker's-girlfriend did it and she's totally DEAD.†“Whoa.†“Totally.†My twin and I even went so far as to test the legend itself. I think we got to about nine chants before the cat knocked something over in the bathroom and we ran out screaming. I remember that, for days or possibly weeks afterward, I couldn't go to the bathroom by myself, for fear that I might accidentally say 'Bloody Mary' one more time, and she would appear in the mirror and kill me. My twin insisted that the words were not accumulative, that you had to say it all in one go, but complied to my request for a bodyguard all the same. Though the ghost bears the same nickname as Mary I, daughter of Henry VIII, the legend is not believed to have anything to do with queens or religious persecution. By the time I heard it, the story of Bloody Mary was only about thirty years old, having cropped up sometime in the 1960s. It has changed quite a bit over time, and differs from region to region. Some say to chant three times, some ten or even twenty. Some say that, instead of saying 'Bloody Mary,' you say, 'I believe in Mary Worth.' Mary is usually said to have been vain in life (hence being stuck in a mirror), and though she was once beautiful, her ghost is said to be grotesque and covered in blood (presumably from the accident that caused her death). The story has inspired many books and comics, and a couple of terrible films. *** The render took many days to complete, the most time consuming part being finding the right pieces for the scene. I wanted the bathroom to look like it was lived in, and that it was a place where the girls would normally feel very safe. I ended up building several things out of primitives, including the shower reflected in the mirror and the duckie picture. I was happy to find dl-bow's bathroom accessories in the Free Stuff area, which added much-needed clutter to the scene with the added bonus of already having Carrara shaders. The characters and dynamic items were set up in Daz Studio, with the final set-up and render in Carrara 7. The final render took about three hours, after about fifteen hours worth of bleh-that's-not-right renders. Postwork in Gimp. Thanks for looking! I hope you enjoy my render, despite its long-winded description.
