This render is based on the 'buried alive' urban legend. Although upon looking it up I've learned that this was not uncommon in the days of primitive medicine. If they didn't know what killed the person they would just bury them in the ground anyway. Some of the richer people could afford safety bells that would be tied to their finger in the coffin so they could ring it upon awaking. For my picture I decided to focus on what it would be like to open one of these coffins after the occupant had passed on. (In this case, whoever opened it ran in fear at the sight). I also wanted there to be a contrast of a body that looked peaceful in death and a mural of complete terror and anger. I used DAZ Studio to render the base image and Photoshop for the post work and blood. It took me about two hours to complete. Fun Fact: The coffin is made entirely out of primitives.
