Entry #37

This photograph was taken during our 2010 August vacation to Jackson, Louisiana. Jackson was the site of one of the battles of the Civil War. The Union forces laid siege to Port Hudson in an attempt to cut Confederate supply lines. There were many casualties during the battle and many of the antebellum homes were used as make shift hospitals and barracks for both Union and Confederate soldiers. As legend has it, many of the dead still walk the streets and hollows of this quiet, sleepy town, and near the river the occasional cannon blast, and hastily barked orders can still be heard. It was a bright clear afternoon without a cloud in the sky when we decided to take a walking tour of the Civil War graveyard, plantation homes, bed and breakfast inns, and the winery in Jackson. We snapped a lot of pictures as we walked on our tour of various landmarks and historical homes. About a month later, My mom and I were cycling through the roll of pictures we took on the iphone when we came across this one picture that seemed to have some sort of fuzzy haze in the window. So, I decided to blow it up and see what exactly was in the window. WOW! What a creepy surprise. We both turned pale and got goose bumps and the feel of icy fingers running down our spines when we realized there were two ghosts peering out the window looking at us on the sidewalk as we took photos. You can clearly see two ghostly figures peering out an upstairs window. The one peering out the window pane is a woman with her hand drawing the curtains and her other hand on her cheek and the other one lower in the picture appears to be bald or balding man looking to the left. We were admiring the filigree veranda rails and blooming crepe myrtle trees when we snapped this photo from the sidewalk. This particular home is situated across from the Civil War graveyard and according to the historical marker was once used as a hospital. It took me about 30 minutes to enhance the photo, add a border, and drop an enlarged version into the original shot. I used Adobe Photoshop 7 to compose the piece.
