Brent Kingston - Dragon*Con 2004
On December 15th, Brent Kingston, known on Renderosity as IMAgineer, suffered an unexpected and fatal heart attack.

Brent was a member of Renderosity for more than 3 years. While he did not post his own works on Renderosity, he greatly admired the work of other artists and was a self proclaimed Renderosity enthusiast.

Brent was many things. He was an accomplished musician, magician, performing actor, artist, and professional business man. Even though he suffered from a rare and debilitating bone disease, he never let it slow him down.
He was the founder of International Media Arts that created IMA's Video Browser, business partner of Per Hakanson of FXR Software, a member of the IBM Developer Research Panel, and owner of two successful jewelry stores with his wife Glory.

He is possibly best know for his Avery Smart Cat character, the Cool Cat band, Catamongus Studios and his enduring dedication to children's education.

At the time of his heart attack he was in California working tirelessly to raise money for his Avery Smartcat Project. We're told that he received great praise and accolades for his efforts to help kids with the Avery Smartcat Project.

He was not alone in California for he was accompanied by his long time business partner and good friend Per Hakanson and an acquaintance from IBI Bill Roland.

Brent's son Bradley, his wife Glory, and sister Karen, and all the volunteers and support staff have taken up the torch and plan to continue on with the Avery Smart Cat project making sure Brent's dream becomes a reality.

We are deeply saddened by Brent's passing. The Renderosity community sends out our prayers and best wishes to Brents family and many friends. May they find some peace in knowing how much he was respected and loved.

Brent, you will be missed. But, you have left a dream that will live on through those you inspired!

I've been working with Brent for years over the internet and had the chance to meet him for the first time at Dragon*CON 2004. I'm so happy I was able to meet Brent in person before he passed. He was a warm, carring and very intelligent person. My heart breaks when a life such as his is cut short. My prayers go out to Brent and his family. There is now a very "Smart Cat" dancing amoung the clouds. I'll miss you my friend. Clint

I was able to meet and talk with Brent at Dragon*Con this year, he was such a wonderful person. So sweet and kind hearted and full of talent and vision. He will be missed greatly, and I agree with Clint, that he'll be dancing and singing among the stars. My thoughts are with his family. Brent, trust that your visions and hopes for the children of this world will live on. Diana

Brent was truly an inspiration. I only met him for a short time but I know he had great things planned ahead and I'm really saddened that those things he'd wanted to do might not be done. I can only hope that those that worked with him keep pressing forward. Brent will surely be missed.

A couple of years ago I had some problems with an FXR Software program. I couldn't get anyone at FXR in Sweden to respond to my requests for assistance. I searched the Internet for all references to FXR and located a reference to Mr. Kingston. He immediately interceded for me and got me the help I needed. I have had the opportunity to communicate with him on a couple of occasions since then. He was always a really really nice guy. The world will be a lesser place without him.

Very sad indeed. What a positive legacy he created and has left behind for others to benefit from. This has truly been a real loss. It is assurring to read that there are others that will continue to carry on, I am certain that he was knowing of that and proud of that accomplishment.

It's been one year Mr. Kingston. I still think about you all the time. You were my mentor, and perhaps one of the only people in my life that encouraged my artistic side, rather than just considered it a waste of time. You were like a second father to me, and I miss you deeply. Unto the end of eternity, may you find naught but happiness and endearment. Rest in Peace, Brent Kingston, you made us all believe in magic. ---Adam Pendergrass.

Was browsing around on the net looking for whatAverysmartcat project had become, and i stumbled upon this page. I knew our dear friend Brent had taken the step to the higher places and enlighten souls, but reading all your people´s nice words on Brent i just had to put my memory of Brent here to. Brent and I worked together several years, also with Johan Steen who has written here to and we worked on Averysmartcat to become fullblown 3d. I was so lucky to get invited to US to try to sell our idea´s to all kinds of business ceo´s we could dust up in SF. Under that trip i saw what a remarkable man and human being Brent was, how his passion, his love for humanity and his compassion for children rose for each day. I can only say from deep within my heart that I am truely blessed to have been one of the persons in this world who was so lucky to meet Mr. Brent Kingston in real life, and your personality touched me deeply and you helped me be a better person with a bigger perspective on things in our world. Thanks for all my friend, you will be deeply missed, but we will meet up again on the other side, wiser, more enlighten and with our hearts full of love. Godspeed my brother.:.
