I have to think that there is some convergence between the two. At least on the 2D side of things. Alot of people use photos as base textures and focal points in a '2D' image. Anyways, I'm a little saddened that some of us vector monkeys weren't nominated. Check mono, akrilico, Rohyphnol, Brains etc.... Never mind. Atleast there's NEXT August....
Aloha I have to say I am very surprised to see my stuff here. I assume some of the photography comments are about my "2d" art... I am one who really could care less what is used to make an image... in the end it is ALL 2d art, unless it is a sculpture of something truly "3d" Years ago when I first started airbrushing, it was "cheating" and wasn't considered real art, now computer art is "cheating" to the airbrushers and I get the feeling some think photography is "cheating" when it comes to computer art! Just for the record, I use every tool I have, from a pencil and airbrush to a photo to poser and Z brush... I am happy folks like my art") I make no excuses about using photos, poser, painter, paint shop pro, photo paint, photo impact 6,photo shop, image composer, illustrator, draw, z brush and my oldest friend painter classic....cannot forget brother wacom.........lol, all in one image! Images are the deal, how we get there is not so important")
Truely merging those 2 mediums was totaly uncalled for, How can you compare someones artistic ability in paint/Drawing etc, to someone going out with a camera to take a picture, I still love the photgrapy art posted by many of renderosities artists, and I am truely sadenned that I was unable to vote for more than one artist! (Hope i do not cause any uproar)
if this was something like Poser/Lightwave month, and 10 of the 12 entratns were more than predominantly all lightwave, the people would scream bloody murder. Saying it's "all 2d in the end" is an overused cliche. noir, i know you're a photographer, but the primary focus of your work is the 2D media aspect. Out of the 12 entrants, only one of them's prime focus is photography (with 1 or 2 being 50/50). Image ARE the deal, however, having an unfair representation of a month's AOM, one as lopsidedly unfairly represented as this month's, people would scream bloody murder if it was Poser being left out, and god forbid I have to end up comparing this to something like racial discrimination (i said COMPARE, not that they were the same). For the record, I am accusing the aom_committee of refusing to look at the photography gallery at all. Guys like jhazard can step toe to toe with everyone on this list.
Difficult as usual to pick an artist to vote for, but I managed. Though I don't post much of it, I occasionally mix photography and digital elements, so I can appreciate what I see here. I think it's a good mix of artists here, and congrats to all the nominees.
...all of the enries look great...my vote is kinda between usurer and studio_ronin... ...I'm kinda wondering why starshuffler's works isn't included in the nominees...ah well, just my two cents anyway...great work and congratulations to the nominees and winners!
My vote is for Runswithwind..his images are of the highest quality and I feel he has given much of himself in displaying on the 2D gallery..I for one am delighted to see his work at the moment at the very top of the top 20!! well done and good luck!!
I for one agree with rushinthewind - it's the effect, not the means I find important. and thanks to all the folks who voted for me, and the nomination of course. I feel somewhat tiny between such masters as Studio Ronin, Usurer, Rushinthewind.. it's a priviladge in a way, even tho I get trampled LOL Slynky - I agree, the choices jury's made aren't always what we'd imagine, but don't take all this so seriously ;)
