now 2 years old. It wasn't until I sat down to collage a lot of my
old comics for this week's cartoon that it really hit me. I suppose
time does pass a lot faster when you are having as much fun as we
are creating the weekly comics. I hope the readers enjoy the comics
as much as we enjoy creating them." Over the last two years, the 'Rosity Comic Strip has continually provided a great escape, with many talented artists putting forth their best work to brighten each week. It is on this week of celebration that we present you with an introduction to the current members of the Renderosity Comics Team as they share a bit about themselves. Meet anniemation Bio I came to Earth from Saturn during the great Rudanip Exodus as a stowaway on a lemon mining freighter. Honorary Sagitarrius and parttime vegetarian. I enjoy reading Vonnegut while walking backwards in the rain and painting upsidedown in green. Favorite Strip of My Own   Feline Translator  Inspiration? Just everyday stuff. Favorite Comic or Character? Terry Gilliam, John Krisfalusi and Gary Lawson. Meet Coa Bio I live in New Jersey, USA and grew up in the 50's and 60's. Started with computers in 1980 as a Computer Programmer (pre-Microsoft days), taught Photoshop for many years and fell in love with 3D Art 12 years ago. I started with Ray Dream Studio and quickly discovered Terragen, Bryce3D, Poser3 and Vue3 and have gotten all updated versions since then. I also enjoy using World Builder, Lightwave & Blender. I love animals, have been riding horses since I was 5, raised Angus cattle and currently have 2 Bernese Mountain Dogs. Favorite Strip of My Own Really, really hard choice!!!   Deep Sea Diving  Inspiration? My inspiration is looking at life around me. Between everyday life, fiction and fairy tales, I have a never ending source of ideas! The first mousecapade appeared here at Renderosity on August 26, 2003 and with one per week since, I am not out of ideas yet! :^) Favorite Comic or Character? I don't really have a favourite strip character but my favourite cartoon character is "The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show" as the humour appealed to both children and adults. Walt Disney, of course, is #1!! Meet JamesRoden Bio I was born in Mishawaka, Indiana back in 1973. I got interested in 3d art in the late 90's and discovered that it is possible for a color blind person like myself to actually create things that are worth looking at ;) These days I write, work on two comics (Tunnelrunners and Requiem), and program industrial lasers as my day gig. A little bit of everything, but mostly I'm inspired by the idea of the long form story/serial, old BBC Sci/Fi, urban exploration, and even archaeology. Favorite Comic or Character? place : Meet sparkyjones Bio I was born on a wednesday, if that helps any...I've been paying taxes and avoiding death ever since - so far my tactics seem to be reliably successful *knock on wood* If you're REALLY that interested in my biographical information, it would worry me... Favorite Strip of My Own    My favorite stuff of my own is always whatever I happen to have time and energy to work on - if I don't love it, I don't work on it...I'm currently having all kinds of fun doing the darker counterpart to Wren Derosity, "G'Night Shade". It lets me explore more mature territory with some of the usual suspects from "Wren Derosity" and I am loving that. I do have some big changes in store for "Wren Derosity" so don't think the strip is backseating at all - I named the original comic after this place, so there *IS* something of a standard and a level of all-ages access that I take a measure of pride in being responsible for...whatever is on my screen, that's my Favorite. Inspiration? Oh PLEASE - everything, Absolutely E V E R Y T H I N G - the stuff that rocks and the stuff that sucks, the water that dances beneath swimming ducks, the sky and the stars, the sun and the moon, the smartest person I know and the village buffoon, every tear I've seen in the eyes of a friend, every story that's told from beginning to end, my dreams and ideas, my future and past, every moment I've cherished that just wouldn't last...all of it, yep...inspiration isn't something I have to search for as I'm usually overwhelmed by an abundance of it. been said by people she meets behind her back...* Favorite Strip of My Own   What Happens At The Lilipad Stays At The Lilipad  How does anyone pick their own favorite comic? It's not like picking a favorite child. That would be easy. :o What Happens At The Lilipad Stays At The Lilipad Inspiration? Gary Larson's "The Far Side", British comedies (the funny ones like Black Adder and Monty Python; not the crap like The Office or Father Ted). Favorite Comic or Character? I love Rich Burlew's "Order Of The Stick" (web comic) and Greg Evans' "Luann". Meet Frogdot Bio I live in Southern California. Started doing art as a kid and never grew out of it. I had a line of cartoon frog prints selling in the early 80's and then in the late 90's with my late-blooming discovery of computers, I started doing frogs digitally, along with other types of digital art. Favorite Strip of My Own   Frog Tales - Lord Of The Anvils  My favorite strip of my own is "Lord Of the Anvils" just becasue it's so stupid (in a good way). Inspiration? Most of my inspiration is from watching what goes on in the world. Little happens in my quiet neighborhood, but watching an hour, or two of tv news a day gives me plenty to make fun of. Favorite Comic or Character? Calvin & Hobbes is the best comic strip I have ever read. So true to life and funny to boot. My best friend as a tot, was a stuffed rabbit with which I confided and had many adventures just like C & H. Meet Ed Hoover Bio I was born in 1964 in Idaho. As a little kid, I sometimes did little stick figure cartoons and didn't return to it until around 2003/4 when I heard about some of the silly stuff the upper management at the big company I worked at said. When the job went overseas, I switched to a combination of political / social cartoons. Around 2002, I also discovered 3D computer art (which quickly replaced my writing as a creative outlet). I tried various SF/Fantasy pictures, but realized that I wasn't an artist. I did realize that what I really am is an idea man (working with ideas instead of words or images which were only a way to present ideas and thoughts). Soon after, my 3D Smiley Faces were "born" and their reception showed that I had finally found my (minimalist/simplistic) style! Favorite Strip of My Own   The attempted Brain deceipt  The attempted Brain deceipt. I like the idea of innocent Smiley Faces attempting deceipt, but failing miserably at it because the idea of deceipt is so foreign to them... Inspiration? This silly human-made world of ours (specifically taking examples from this American culture I live in). Some of my ideas just come to me and don't always come from a specific source... Favorite Comic or Character? A 3-way tie between Calvin & Hobbes (as frogdot said), Dilbert and FarSide. Except I have no favorite character. I am more interested in the interaction between characters. Meet Nyghtwolf Bio I don't remember much from my childhood, save one thing. I was just a diaper clad little lad and I remember my parents took away my finger paints. It was then that I realized how imaginative I could be. Granted my paintings were a bit monotone in color, but I proved a point. Art was in my blood and a few other places. Favorite Strip of My Own   Armed & Dangerous  My favorite personal comic...it would have to be the Armed & Dangerous! Why, well because it’s funny. I mean, here you are right in the middle of a great idea…when you suddenly notice the most obvious part of your plan is wrong. Inspiration? My inspiration comes from....well....honestly there are times when I'm just sitting and staring at a blank canvas...then BOOM, I'm knocked over backwards by the most hilarious idea.....well for me anyway. Other times it's from my own life, what I've said or done, and things I see or hear. I try to put myself in each comic in some way, because if you can't laugh at yourself, there is no point in laughing. Favorite Comic or Character? My all time favorite comic would have to be Garfield....especially the coffee in the pants back in March of 2001....yeah okay so I'm addicted to Toons. But you have to respect a comic that's been around since 1978 and is still making you laugh. I can only hope that my characters can accomplish that. Meet AnteriorLobe Bio I was born in upstate New York in 1961. I tramped around the North East for college, grad school and then another grad school finally emerging to do the science thing for about a decade, mainly at universities. Suddenly, a switch! Corporate life as a programmer and then a technical writer. It’s an odd shift, science to tech writer, but I like writing, and that has driven me more than visual arts. I only came across Bryce about three years ago, and DAZ Studio, gosh, less than a year ago. My life has clearly been directed towards one goal: a comic with a talking dinosaur. Favorite Strip of My Own   My Way  I’d have to say my favorite Non-Canonical is “My Wayâ€. The idea for this one popped out of the blue after I listened to a tape with the Sid Vicious version of Frank Sinatra’s signature tune. The Gallimimus lyrics just spilled right out. My favorite part is the last panel where Gallimimus says “Nah, too much effort,†after he has just expended a tremendous effort for his singing debut. I doubt anyone else got that, but I like it! Inspiration? My early comedy sense developed from Monty Python, SCTV, MST3K, and other off-beat shows. My tendency towards sarcastic, absurdist fare means I like things like Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and on the web, The Onion. I tend to like character-based comedy as opposed to shows which are just strings of one-liners. All of this sort of stuff forms, I believe, a sort of comedy baseline with which I build-up a mental structure for plot, dialog, and fitting one comic into an ongoing storyline. In other words, I stare off into space and suddenly think: A Robotic Tuna…yes! Favorite Comic or Character? Farside, Dilbert, yeah, I like those. But there are more obscure things which I find hilarious. “The Non-Adventures of Wonderella†about a spoiled, self-centered superhero and her naïve, young side-kick is comedy gold. If you like sarcastic, snide comments about Mary Worth, Funky Winkerbean, and other newspaper staples then check out “The Comics Curmudgeonâ€. I also highly recommend “The n00b†about the hapless characters in the RPG “Clichequest†; “Maxwell the Demonâ€, about, well I think you can guess; as well as “HER! [Girl vs. Pig]†for your amoral, nihilistic, absurdist comedy needs. Meet Gordon_S Bio I grew up mostly in Detroit, though my family moved north of the city in 1970, when I was 13. I was a voracious reader, and also did a fair amount of writing. I remember writing a massively punnish paper for English class when I was about eleven. Favorite Strip of My Own   Farrot  I don't have a favorite 'toon of mine, I have more of a "Top 20" list. Near the top, though, would be "Farrot". Inspiration? My inspiration? Well, I was brought up by a couple of inveterate punsters (my parents). I grew up with gags about the Infernal Revenue and “Need a phone number? Call Inflammation.†So, that’s where the word play aspect of my humor comes from, although I’ve probably taken it a number of steps further than my parents ever quite imagined I would. The 3D aspect of my ‘toons springs from my career in automotive design (CAD) and a couple of stints working in commercial photography. I discovered 3D rendering in the early ‘90’s, and thought it would be a perfect vehicle for my weird sense of humor. I bought my first NT workstation and Lightwave 3D in 1996, but found that it would take AGES just to do one ‘toon. Not acceptable. So, I waited until hardware, software, and content were available and affordable. I launched my website, www.fotoonz.com , in December of 2005, and I’ve been posting two new cartoons a week ever since. The positive response has been very gratifying, and now serves as a primary source of my inspiration and motivation. Favorite Comic or Character? Favorite strips? Early 60's - Peanuts. Late 60's - Charles Addams work. '70's - B. Kliban's books (Never Eat Anything Larger Than Your Head, etc...). Later - Far Side and Bloom County. Today - Non Sequitur, Get Fuzzy, Dilbert, Pearls Before Swine. Meet vdelor Bio Born and raised in California. When I was young, I enjoyed drawing and copying comic book cartoon strips, especially the Walt Disney characters. As an adult, I later joined the motion picture industry as a set painter and spent some time with the Walt Disney Company as a Graphic Artist and Decorative Painter. I did some illustrating there for the theme parks and that was like a dream that came true, painting Disney characters which were like old friends from my past. I always enjoyed working with cartoons.
