"We really do believe that things have changed from an almost linear step-to-step workflow to a new kind of workflow where everything is connected"

-Patrick Palmer, Senior Product Manager of Video and Audio Adobe

Introduction

Adobe has always been a forward looking company. Their transition to creating cloud-based applications a few years ago was nearly flawless despite some grumbling by those who didn't see the future innovations Adobe had in mind for their applications. Now, with the release of Adobe Creative Cloud 2015 this week, Adobe has made the ways we create using their applications easier, more collaborative and definitely more fun, and not just for individual artists but for communities like we have here at Renderosity, and in the process proved that their vision for the future of their applications was the right one.

There are a huge amount of improvements and new additions to the Creative Cloud 2015. I'm going to outline most of the major ones, but before I do that, there are two brand new additions to the Adobe application stable that are so innovative, I want to focus on them first.

Adobe Hue

061515_CC2015_IconHue-150x150.jpg Adobe Hue is a completely new app for your mobile device that allows you to capture color and light palettes from the real world and then share them as "color looks" with other Adobe applications like Premiere and After Effects.

Adobe created Hue to be a way for artists to find interesting looks in the world around them and then use these looks in their videos and digital images without having to spend hours "color grading" their work. The interface is so simple that you will grasp it's workflow immediately. I love the fact that you work within a 3D space to choose the colors you want to emphasize. I'm looking forward to posting a full review in the near future.

Adobe Character Animator

Character Animator is my favorite of the new Adobe updates to Creative Cloud 2015. It's a brand new 2D animation application that is a companion to After Effects. Essentially, you use Photoshop or After Effects to create a 2D character then bring it into Character Animator where, using simple rigging controls, you use your webcam to track facial movement, set lip-sync and trigger expressions. Believe me, the simplicity and ease of use of this application is off the charts. Adobe is calling this release a "preview" because they feel that the application is only at its beginning stages. They are actively solicting community support to develop this application to its fullest. I'm on board!

What's New in Creative Cloud 2015

It's clear to me in after attending the recent Adobe press briefing, that the focus on the 2015 Creative cloud is collaboration and asset sharing. It's one thing to make their applications work together easily, but it's another to help the users learn to work together with ease and comfort. This is part of the revolution in portable devices like the ipad and smartphone. By taping into this huge need for artists to interact with all of the devices and all of their friends and collaborators, Adobe has struck a chord that I think will reverberate for many years to come. Suffice to say the updates in Adobe Creative Cloud 2015 are among their best.

Here's a well produced short video by Adobe that touches on several of the new additions to Adobe applications.

  • Adobe Photoshop CC

Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, Photoshop CC introduces Artboards, the best way to design cross-device user experiences in a single Photoshop document and quickly preview them on a device; and a preview release of Photoshop Design Space, a sleek new work environment focused on the needs of mobile app and web site designers. Lightroom CC and Photoshop CC both gain the new Dehaze feature, which appeared first as a MAX sneak in October 2014. Dehaze, eliminates fog and haze from photos, including underwater shots, for startlingly clear images. Haze can also be added to a photo for artistic effect.

  • Adobe Premiere Clip

Easily transform the clips you shoot with your smartphone or tablet into edited videos, right on your mobile device. Apply custom color Looks created with Adobe Hue CC. When you’re ready for more editing control and finesse, open your projects in Premiere Pro. Creative professionals use Premiere Clip to edit on-the-go, transforming footage and images into great looking videos.

  •  Adobe Premiere Pro CC

The intuitive and powerful Lumetri Color panel helps you make instant color corrections, and Morph Cut magically smooths and polishes jump cuts and dialogue pauses to deliver a polished interview. With brand new Creative Cloud Libraries integration, Premiere Pro CC takes full advantage of CreativeSync technology so assets like color “Looks” and graphics flow seamlessly between Adobe mobile apps and Premiere Pro CC, After Effects CC, Photoshop CC and more.

Premier Pro CC also adds the very useful Morph Cut technology which allows you to fix jump cuts in interview footage. The technology interprets the video and adds frames to make the transition from one cut to another look much smoother.
