![]() While most artists use either Ultra Fractal or Fractal Explorer when working with fractals, I prefer to use FraxFlame, which is a little known plug-in filter that is included in Kai's Power Tools 5 FraxFlame's pulverized color dust can generate wonderful composition. An example of this can be seen in my image Little Piece of Inspiration. For this tutorial I am using Adobe Photoshop (or your preferred paint program), and the following plugin filters: KPT5's FraxFlame, and Flaming Pear's Flexify and Flood. In Photoshop, create a new image 729 pixels wide by 1200 pixels high, setting the background color to black. On a new layer, create the swirl flame using the FraxFlame filter. Using the two-color gradient, define the texture and the spherical shape of the goblet. This round shape will be modified later. When the desired effect is achieved, click the checkmark. Name this layer top. Make sure the top layer is selected. Open Flaming Pear's Flexify. Use the following settings: Latitude: 53/ Longitude: -77/ Spin: -18/ Background color: black/ Input: polar/ Output: half-polar/ Glue: normal. The Flexify filter gives the swirl flame its convex appearance. Again, when the desired effect is achieved click ok. In Photoshop, select the Rectangular Marquee Tool and use it to capture the swirl flame. Copy and paste into a new layer, naming this layer base. With the Move Tool, position the swirl flame to form the base of the goblet. Flatten the base by selecting Edit/Transform/Distort. Click and drag the box until you have achieved the desired effect, and hit enter on your keyboard. On a new layer, repeat the same steps to create the stem, and name this layer stem. To give some dynamic to the scene, I added brilliance to the ground surface, using Flaming Pear's Flood. First, flatten the layers. Open the Flood filter, and use the following settings: Horizon: 89/ Offset: 36/ Perspective: 0/ Altitude: 100/ Waviness: 0/ Complexity: 86/ Brillance:46/ Blur:100/ Size: 100/ Height: 0/ Undulation: 100. Setting the waviness to zero gives the illusion of a glassy background. When finished, click ok. Create a new layer in Photoshop to add glowing lights and soft border. To make the lights, select a soft yellow from the color palette and a round bush. Dab the paint around goblet, varying the brush size with each glow. For additional glow use the Gaussian Blur filter set at a 4.0 pixel radius. |
To soften the overall image, once more create a new layer.
Select the Rectangular Marquee Tool creating a box around the
goblet, and inverse the marquee [Select>Inverse]. Using the
Paint Bucket Tool, fill the selected area with a soft blue-gray or
light violet. Deselect the Marquee Tool [Select>Deselect], and
add the Gaussian Blur filter set at a 60 pixel radius. This step
gives the image its dreamlike quality. For the finishing touch, on a separate layer, add a border and your signature. Merge all layers and save. All that is left to do now is upload your new image to your Renderosity Gallery! Wishing you wonderful success creating fractals using this new method.
