2008 Vendor of the Year ~ Aery_Soul

Jan 08, 2009 at 12:00 am by Store Staff

It's no secret: give people what they want, and they will always come back for more. The Vendor of the Year continually provides a multitude of products that are almost always in want by the digital art community. Aery_Soul earns their fourth consecutive Vendor of the Year title with another fantastic year in 2008.

*How did you originally find Renderosity? *

We were surfing the net for Poser content: freebies, tutorials and anything actually since we were moving our first steps within the tool and found Renderosity. It was 2001 and there were already many freebies available... nothing that did really fill our needs though and so we decided to create something of our own.
We were amazed by the response of people for the first freebies we posted (our bandwidth quickly run out because of the many downloads!) and after a few months we decided to try and put something up for sale in the store.

*Through the creation process, from inception to finalization of the product, what is each of your favorite part and why?*

Well, unfortunately to make our creations work in Poser we often have to spend more time doing things we don't like because they are not creative at all than things that we do enjoy.

The best parts are certainly: concept, when we (As Shanim & Siliphiel) work together, brainstorming ideas and sketching things; modeling (As Shanim) and texturing (Siliphiel). All these things are highly creative, fun and stimulate us to do our best and improve by experimenting and trying new ways to do things.

What we do not like very much is those "boring" things that involve very low or no creativity: UV Mapping, morphing, rigging, packaging etc. even though these can also sometimes be challenging and require some imagination and creativity... but most of the time they're just, plainly boring.

We also do enjoy creating promo images since it's actually the very moment when we enjoy our own products and can "sort of" make art with them.
Our promo are not only advertising shots, they're rather how we feel the products, we want to pass on our feelings about our creations, our own vision... that is why it takes us so long (usually around a week)) because it's a tribute we pay to our own work and commitment. We don't create products just to sell them we create products to give form to our creativity and offer other people tools to express their.

*What are you currently working on?*

Although we are very proud of this Vendor of the Year achievement we have to confess that from the point of view of work we wanted to do much more during 2008.
It makes us chuckle to say that the biggest products we mentioned in the last year's interview (like Hanyma Vengeance) and that we had planned for 2008 haven't yet been released. Anyhow we're working on Hanyma Vengeance which is actually on the last stages of "poserization" (the boring part!). We're very proud of the work we did on it (which also involved a lot of ZBrush Sculpting) although we would have liked to do even more but Poser has got its limits and we have to remain within them. Anyway we'll show something soon since its release it's planned for February of maybe March.

We're also working on the sequel of our See No Evil outfit: Hear No Evil. The two sets don't actually have much in common apart their "toughness", all our new projects are naturally more complex and larger than older sets.

Our long list of projects also includes a couple of fantasy, large, sets for Michael 4, a Steampunk "heavy" outfit or maybe two and something lighter and more fantasy in style. We would also like to make a very heavy and large armor of a sci-fi-fantasy flavor.

* The Community is so grateful that you continue to update Alice (for free) and make her available for a limited time. The burning question is, are there any plans for a new character by Aery_Soul in the future? *

We do not have any plans for another full character for Victoria 4. We put all our "ideas" and ideals into Alice and we don't feel like doing either a sort of clone or a character we won't be using ourselves.
We don't make creations just because there is request or anything like that, they have to grow in us, in some way... actually Alice has grown bigger that we had expected when we started working on her.
We're very proud of the work we have done and continue doing on Alice but we really couldn't afford, time-wise, to create another Alice and we also don't want, she's unique and so be it.

Once a new version of Victoria gets released (he he) maybe we'll see about creating a new character.

* Do you have any advice for aspiring Digital Content Developers?*

Yes, quit looking for shortcuts straightaway, if you want to create something, anything, you simply have to spend time with the tools of your choice and try to improve day by day. If you pretend to do great things on day one you'll be disappointed, you have to start from the basics and then learn something new everyday. It is as simply as that (step by step), in a few years you'll do amazing things if you really want to.

People often ask us if we have any tutorial to suggest or anything like that: the truth is, we really don't.
When we started there was very little about Poser content creation so we learned by trial and error. Nowadays there are lot of tools to help create Poser content and many tutorials on modeling and texturing for both beginners and more advanced users but you'll still need a few things no tutorial will teach you: commitment, good will, true passion and your own imagination; these are all essential!

*What else do you both enjoy doing when you're not hard at work creating great content? *

Well, honestly we're quite reserved about ourselves anyway whoever hangs out at our forum can easily see we like playing videogames. It is something that both makes up relax and inspires us and we enjoy a lot playing co-op games. Basically anyway we like and enjoy everything that is creative and that is about art and we almost do everything together since we spend all our time together and share most of our interests and passions!

*Do you have any final words (any info you want to share with the community)?*

A special "hi" and "thank-you" goes to all Aery Soul fans and all the people that have made the Aery Soul site/forum a little but nice and welcoming community, to our testers, collaborators and all the other people that come and share their images, thoughts etc. with us. And, of course, to two very special persons: JonnyRay and Koncz our two admins and much more than friends!

Another "thank-you" also goes to all Renderosity staff and to Debbie M which always gives ear to our comments and suggestions.

And now our "usual" thanks, in hardly any particular order:
to our parents for the patience and endless support.

To Amiga for allowing me to create and become aware of its programmers, graphic artists, musicians. You were great and some of you still are.

To videogames creators for both inspiration and fun. We deeply respect you because we know every one of you works hard to Create and we really admire what you do.

To movie writers and directors. Another wonderful form of art; we enjoy seeing movies that let our mind and imagination run wild and boundless for a couple of hours.

To the artists that draw wonderful things, full of feelings and emotions. Do not ever think you're wasting your time in anything you do with passion because at least ONE person in the world will understand and appreciate what you do.

To musicians. Many of you create things that are so incredibly beautiful that often we would like to be there and witness the whole process that leads to the final, registered version. Your art is perhaps the most direct and moving. You can do a lot and I hope one day everyone will realize that more recognition should be give to those that create Music with their soul, not those that produce music for the masses.

To the brilliant minds that with their inventions and discoveries since the most ancient of times: you allowed our civilizations to progress and dream.

To books and comics, an immense source of enjoyment and food for thoughts. We would like to support all the writers and comic writers that create wonderful things and earn almost nothing. Go on, time will reward you.

A thank-you also to all kind of sports and physical activity that teaches and reminds us that "Mens Sana In Corpore Sano" (an healthy mind in an healthy body) is really true.

Another thanks goes to all those people that silently work and sacrifice themselves for us all.

I also want to thank my elementary school teacher, my primary school math teacher and my secondary school Italian teacher.

Finally we thank our friends, those that aren't anymore and live as shadows in my dreams.
A thanks to the sky, the sea, the wind and the fire...
A thanks to the comets, asteroids, satellites, planets, galaxy, universe and everything in it ...
A thanks to the eyes, the smiles, the words, the gestures and the colours ...
A thanks to the binary numbers, the videogames, RpG, Internet, cybernetic and science, Dna and everything is alien.
A thanks to the fluffy and furry things, our baby plushes, martial arts, the Destiny and the Future.
A thanks to the beauty of the naked female/male body.
A thanks to all Soul, Mind, Body.

A thank-you to all those that support us and dedicate to us their precious time.

We hope to see less violence and more respect.

Thanks for the attention.
