DIGIC PICTURES' WARHAMMER®: MARK OF CHAOS™ CINEMATIC TRAILER SELECTED FOR THE SIGGRAPH 2006 ELECTRONIC THEATER PROGRAM

A new short film from Digic Pictures has received one of the greatest recognitions in the computer animation world

BUDAPEST, Hungary, June 13, 2006 - According to the announcement made by ACM SIGGRAPH, Digic Pictures' cinematic trailer, created for the computer game WARHAMMER®: Mark of Chaos™, was selected for the SIGGRAPH 2006 Electronic Theater Program.

WARHAMMER®: Mark of Chaos™ introductory cinema

NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. commissioned Digic Pictures to create the intro movie for the WARHAMMER®: Mark of Chaos™ RTS game, which is being developed by Black Hole Entertainment. The realistic, highly detailed short film introduces the dark atmosphere of the fantasy world of Warhammer.

Presented for the first time at the E3 2006 exhibition in Los Angeles, the movie became one of the most critically acclaimed films of the show.

"Digic is really at the cutting edge of what's possible in pre-rendered cinematics, they are doing things that no one else can right now, and they have done an amazing job capturing the spirit of Warhammer with the intro.", said Chris Wren, Senior Producer at Namco Bandai Games America.

The 3D rendered, high definition film not simply presents spectacular action but introduces complex characters as well as a deeply emotional tale. The core of the story is the unequal epic battle between the Imperial Army and the forces of Chaos. Digic was one of the first companies to bring Games Workshop's well-established Warhammer Fantasy universe to the screen.

"Digic Pictures have done an absolutely stunning job of capturing the dark and gritty atmosphere that characterizes the Warhammer World", said Erik Mogensen, Licensing Manager at Games Workshop. "We're very excited to see our characters come to life, and it's fair to say that Digic have exceeded our highest expectations for this trailer!"

SIGGRAPH 2006 Electronic Theater

SIGGRAPH, the greatest event in the computer graphics world, is organized in the US every year since 1974. The event includes a fair, a conference and an animation festival. After a thorough selection process by a distinguished jury, the most outstanding work is presented by the Electronic Theater.

"It is a great honor for us to have our work among the best and this recognition reaffirms our faith in the work we do. Movies for computer games still secrete plenty of unutilised possibilities." - added Gabor Marinov, Creative Producer of Digic Pictures.

This is the second Hungarian 3D animated short to earn the prestigious SIGGRAPH recognition. The first Hungarian animation chosen for the Electronic Theater was a cinematic trailer for Armies of Exigo, which was also created by Digic Pictures in 2003.

The WARHAMMER®: Mark of Chaos™ cinematic trailer is available for download at Digic Pictures' website. It can also be found at the official WARHAMMER®: Mark of Chaos™ website.

Great trailer. Only problems I saw with the animation was that the leader's hands looked a bit too large and the not-great lipsyncing. The latter is understandable given that it was non-English animators.

Other than those two minor things, truly magnificent.

This was simply the best animation i have ever seen. Are they truely going to make a Movie of this? If so i must see it.

you must make a movie of this.

That is just awesome! Didn't mind the big hands at ALL - it looked great in the context of fantasy! Man, if someone made a full length feature like this I'd pay full price, and I'm not alone on that thought!

Except for the lip sync and the dead look in the main characters face when he first appears, this short Trailer, really rivals anything I have seen before, great detailed attention to animation, texturing and lighting, thanks for sharing this :o)

Wow, that was excellent. Makes me want to skip sleep and model so more!

Awesome atmosphere! I hope they start making full length movies of this style and quality. Pixar movies are great but the dark fantasy imagery in this trailer blows me away!

very nice... and its nice to see my countrymen excelling at something outside of the food industry :)

as for the people saying that their hands are too big - *cough*, this is warhammer. the characters are heavily stylized, they are all like that. i think it is a nice change - the pursuit of photorealism should always take a backseat to the unlimited individual style and creativity that can be achieved in the 3D medium.
