Each month we showcase a Renderosity Free Stuff Artist,
in appreciation for their thoughtfulness, and countless hours spent
creating free items for the Renderosity community. This month we
bring you a bonus interview, as we revisit Lisbeth Jakobsen, better
know to her Renderosity fellow artists as ernyoka1 and
TrekkieGrrrl.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? I'm a
forty-year-old Danish woman. Currently obsessed with all things
concerning Alan Rickman who is Snape and Harry Potter
in general. Something that reflects in most of my newer renders, as
well as some of my models. I'm married, with two kids, aged 10 and
15. I also have three cats. How did you get started in
Poser? I started out in Bryce, around 1999 or early 2000
originally in an attempt to recreate Star Trek scenes and alien
planets. Soon after I found that I had a dire need for humans to
fill my pictures, and since at that time it was all MetaCreations,
I found Poser. That was a long before I really got online, so at
the time I didn't know the existence of Renderosity. That also
meant that at first, Poser wasn't the addiction to me that it later
became. After about two-years I got a new computer, and while
re-installing my stack of software, I "rediscovered" Poser. At that
time I was lucky enough to also find Renderosity and its wealth of
free stuff and this time I got thoroughly hooked. What version
of Poser do you use and why do you like it best? I started with
Poser 4, then got Pro Pack, Poser 5 and now Poser 6. I LOVE Poser
6. I liked Poser 5 as well because I've always been a sucker for
shiny stuff and reflections, something that until then was only
possible in Bryce. How did you get started in Modeling? I
can't quite remember anymore, I created some things in Bryce, but
of course they weren't exportable, so for a long time it was mostly
pipes and the like for the Star Trek renders. Luckily most of those
have disappeared into oblivion, the few I still makes me cringe.
Your items are unique but at the same time they are the common
everyday items that we often need to complete an image. How do you
decide what item to model? Well, I guess it's a little of
several reasons actually. One is my love of making things that are
unique. Making trash is funny because it's such a neglected area,
and it really is needed if you want to create realistic renders.
There's trash everywhere!

What was the first model you ever made? Did it come out the way
you planned? The first thing I did for free stuff was a texture
for PhilC's Classical Wrap. At that time I was very into primitive
man and such, so I made a leather texture for a cave woman. The
first model I made and actually uploaded was a scratch pole for the
Poser cat really quite pathetic. Made in Poser even. But, it was
my first homemade prop, and I was very proud of it. My first
morphing prop was a morphing beer can. It has since been taken
offline because I recently made another one that is so much better.
The old one was really just a textured cylinder with some morphs to
squash it. But it had a lot of downloads and it got me hooked on
both making trash and making morphing things. When things just
aren't going the way you planned what keeps you going? I don't.
I have a lot of scrapped projects where something or the other
didn't work as I had planned. I get bored very easily. So if
something doesn't work, I abandon it and make something else
instead. Of all the models you've made, what's your
favorite? To use a clich it's like asking a mother which of
her children she prefers. I like all my models. Some got closer to
what I wanted than others of course. I really like my Men's Room
(which is a commercial item). Do you ever take requests for a
model? Do you have a place that people can leave you
suggestions? Oh I'd say almost half of my stuff is made on
request. Someone asks for this or that, and if I'm in the mood, and
at home so I have the possibility to make it, I often jump in and
do it. It's fun, and it helps me get ideas too, something I'm
really bad at. Of all the different things that you do from
texturing characters to making props what is your favorite? I
really don't like texturing props. I like making human textures
sometimes, but I really enjoy modeling the best. With the human
textures it's really the character more than the actual texture
that makes it fun for me. I like making characters. I like making
morphs that make Vickie and Mike look like anything but
Vickie and Mike.

Can you give us a hint on what your next item will be? How long
do you anticipate before it will be out? Are we talking
commercial or free stuff now? I've been working on a model of
Spinners End from Harry Potter, but I've lost steam a
little, mostly because one of the models in the set keeps coming
out like crap. So I'm not sure if it will ever be finished. I'm not
working on anything for free right now. But perhaps in ten-minutes
there'll be a request that I'll jump onto. What is your favorite
image created with your free stuff? I think it's my Spinner's
End picture. Everything just clicked there. And it turned out
almost exactly as I had imagined it.

How long have you been a member of the Poser Community? What do
you like best about it? I joined Renderosity in 2002. I like
the fact that I've made a lot of good friends, both here and on a
few other Poser-related sites. Do you have any advice for
someone just starting out modeling and sharing their free stuff
items? It would feel a bit high and mighty to give out advice.
One thing though: If you need whatever you're making,
chances are that someone else will too. And you might stumble over
something that everybody has been wanting forever, without knowing
it. Oh and please put your stuff into a proper Runtime structure.
It makes it so much easier for everybody (and some of my old things
are NOT packed properly, I'm sure.
