Rob Brown - Angels and Dragons

Rob Brown started out working for a fish packing plant, and then as a Merchant Marine on an offshore oil industry for seven years ... where he began composing and studying writing. An injury acquired while working in Dusk Harbor, Alaska, placed him behind an easel, and he has been creating amazing fantasy images ever since.

What were your earliest influences?

I have been doing art since elementary school. My art influences: my imagination, and the Renaissance Masters like my favorites Velasquez and Rosetta. I wanted my art to be original. In my early to mid-twenties I worked at The Berkeley Barb newspaper, which printed my work; Random House Pub. and Houghton Mifflin Pub., who did not publish the work I did for them, including the Middle Earth works (which I could not produce quickly enough) for a Tolkien Calendar. What mediums do you use?. Mostly oils, but I do use India ink and pastels too. What suggestions would you give someone starting out, and wanting to become a professional artist? Look at art as a life, before looking at art as a living. If you don't want to be studying all your life, don't start as you have to keep learning. Do you dabble in other art genres besides Fantasy? I have done Object D'art for galleries, and created commercial work for logo's, and pamphlets, etc.

DragonWorld Rob Brown What are your thoughts on Computer Generated images? You don't have the artifacts in CG art as you do with making something in the traditional mediums, but CG has contributed to making art lighter, more playful and bizarre. I feel that it has made a place for itself in the world of art.
