It is possible to get ripples in the water plane if you use a terrain. Create a 512x512 black page in Photoshop and use a faded white brush to make ripples. What works is a top view of your model (multi passed rendered for the layer mask) added to the image so the figure can be used to add the ripples in the right places. Import the image into a 512x512 terrain and adust as needed. Put a water shader on it and position it around the actor.
That would add more realism to an already exceptional piece of work.
