| It was midnight. We all heard the sound, the scrabbling scraping sound coming from the other room. "Dad, go see what it is", my son said to me. "No way you little weenie", I said from the closet. "You go check it out"! As I watched from the cracked open closet door, my brave little man went to investigate. (silly kid). As he took a step towards the light switch, the thing attacked. I heard him scream in horror, and the flash from my camera lit up the room, (I keep my camera in my pajama's), and we saw the ugly nasty thing squeezing the smile from my son's face. It was the arm of our landlord. We had heard how he had lost his arm when he tried to grab a couple of dollars of interest from our next door neighbor, and the slamming of the door chopped off his arm. We thought it untrue, a myth, a hideous rumor. But no, it was true, and here it was trying to take us out, so he could raise the rent on the next tenants. My son thought quickly. He grabbed the bloody thing and tossed it into the fireplace, where everything but the bone burnt to a crisp. "Dad", said my son, after he had changed his underwear. "Why didnt you save us"? "Son", said I, after I had changed my boxer shorts, "I was ARMED and ready. I had my FINGER on the trigger, but I might have shot out our TV set. That would have been a horror. Now HAND me that humerus so I can stir the fire". (Authors note: Yes, the picture is silly and the writing is stupid, but what the heck. Lighten up and have a smile. And always pay your rent) |
