July 28, 2008 (Oxford, UK) Audiomotion, the
multi-award winning motion capture studio, today announced its
involvement in the making of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince
Caspian. Audiomotion was hired to deliver almost two hours of
motion capture footage for the feature, recorded with its advanced
suite of 100 Vicon MX40+ cameras, filming over seven days on
location.
In their latest adventure, the Pevensie siblings find themselves
back in Narnia where they discover more than 1300 years have
passed. With the help of some new friends, the children embark on a
journey to overthrow the evil King Miraz and restore Prince Caspian
to his rightful place as heir to the throne.
Audiomotion's Vicon MX40+ cameras enabled the team to capture a
huge volume of complex data, allowing the horses and centaurs to
rear, jump and move freely at speed.
Mick Morris, MD at Audiomotion said: "Prince Caspian was
another exciting location shoot for us, with more horses and
stuntmen than ever before. For our part we captured six horses and
eight stunt performers in a 120 ft long volume. We captured all of
the dangerous battle moves, falling horses and fight
vignettes."
Morris continued: "The animation was then retargeted to a
variety of mythical creatures including centaurs, minotaurs, fawns
and dwarf characters, as well as telmarine cavalry. We delivered
the animation to both vendors MPC and Framestore who between them
delivered over 1000 shots for the movie."
Adam Valdez, animation director at MPC said: "Prince Caspian
proved to be our most complex crowd project to date. One of our big
challenges was hybrid creatures which required complex motion
editing. Audiomotion stepped up to the creative task, refining the
solution until our client was happy with some truly exciting
sequences."
Lindsay Mc Farlane, VFX producer on Prince Caspian said: "At
very short notice Audiomotion were asked to deliver an incredibly
complex and demanding motion capture shoot. Suffice to say the
shoot was a huge success and we walked away with all of the motions
we'd hoped for and many more besides. The data was processed very
quickly and efficiently enabling us to push on with the business of
using the motion to create some spectacular action sequences. I
cannot recommend their services enough."
