Description
Normandy Peak on the left fronts the Ex Coelis Mountain complex at Abraham Lake in the Alberta Rockies front ranges. Ex Coelis is Latin for "Out of the Clouds" and seems a fitting description for this image.
Ex Coelis is the motto of the First Canadian Parachute Battalion, With the invasion of Normandy on D-Day members of the battalion were among the first Allied force on the ground. The unit had orders to demolish a bridge hampering German advance to the invasion beaches, and then to cover British paratroopers attacking a coastal artillery battery.
They accomplished these tasks but being among the first on the ground they suffered heavy casulaties and a large proportion were eventually taken prisoner.
My last image in this series of winter wilderness shots from the Nordegg area of Alberta.

Awesome capture Roxie!!
Wow! This is a really majestic and stunning image. There is quite a breadth and depth to this. Sort of modern Ansel Adams. Fantastic image.
Art really said it well! Those mountains look so proud, so tall. What a fabulous place and as always a wonderful snippet of history from you.
Wonderful capture!
Gorgeous. It's interesting that B&W shots sometimes capture more of the "emotion" of a scene than a full color image, at least that seems to be the case for me. Maybe that's the reason film noir works so well...
impressive mountain view! but I be not happy with this chrom presentation, would love to see it in original colors ;o)
