Description
Mayo is a county that was hit harder than most in Ireland with the famines, and I was struck how many abandoned buildings were scattered all over the county, seemingly still left as they dont appear to have any owners despite the many land reforms that followed.
There are numerous reminders of the Great Famine to be seen on the Mayo landscape: workhouse sites, famine graves, sites of soup-kitchens, deserted homes and villages and even traces of undug 'lazy-beds' in fields on the sides of hills.
Many roads and lanes were built as famine relief measures. There were nine workhouses in the county: All around where I spend a lot of my time when in Ireland at Ballina, Ballinrobe, Belmullet, Castlebar, Claremorris, Killala, Newport, Swinford and Westport.

wow this is almost an exact twin of a abandoned farm up the road from me.. the way the tress and mountains surround the building,, I can not shoot good landscapes like you or i would take some shots of it.. maybe when i get me new lens I will try it :-)
