Description
This White Rhino (Ceratotherium simum) is one of the giant bulls roaming where I live. The word "white" for Rhino is actually not correct but rather "wide" because its real name was from the Dutch "wijd bek renoster", i.e. "wide mouthed rhinoceros". You can clearly see its square lip/mouth surface which enables it to graze instead browsing leaves like its cousin, the Black Rhino.
This picture was taken on the farm Buisfontein and the town I live in can be seen to the left and some distance past the foot of the hill - small town, you have to look close, lol.

What a monumental animal! The shot is really superb!!!
Hope you are using a zoom to capture this big guy. Excellent... Aloha
Impressive rhino ! I just would love to visit your country and go on a photo safari... Excellent upload, oom Piet !
Ohhh, so beautiful picture on this naimal and excellent composition !!! You're so courageous or you have the 4x4 very early at you, because I knoe, when he run he run very speed !!!! LOL :)
Wow - what a big one! Excellent POV. I think this would have been a very blurred shot had it been a Black Rhino. LOL. Stunning capture - makes me want to paint a picture of it!
Great capture...
Excelent shot Piet and thanks for the info.
They keep being very impressive and interesting, those animals. A beautiful capture.. I can imagine why you didn't close in further..:-))
Now that is one honking big qudraped with a nasty weapon connected. What a great capture. I hope if he visits your burg that evryone gives him the right of way!
Your shot makes that " non grata " guy in nice way to be accepted now I "zoom" into, marvellous.. And I could see your village,..maybe could see you too.. Did Nathalie said truth about similarity between you & that rhinoceros? q;))
Sublime posting, Oom Piet!! Truly amazing capture. Have the "devil" in me tonight, ha ha!!! Have to join with Nathtalie, and Laeila, He does look awfully familar ;-) Hugs. Di Di.
Good one! Zooming in makes it even better! Lot's of details and not only the Rhino!. Bravo. And if I see correctly - you left the coffee maker on...
Exquisite wildlife photography! :)
Excellent capture of this scary looking fellow, Bravo!!
That is one weird looking dude, primarily because of that bizarre mouth, or chin! Now that I look at it further, the chin projects the effect of a giant mustache. Great sepia color effect in the capture.
Without a doubt, this is the ugliest animal on earth! It must've been one of God's earliest creations. Lucky for mankind, most animals (large or small) look "prettier" than this poor beast so HIS work improved as His creations progressed. This is one I wouldn't be at all tempted to "pet" if it roamed across my back yard. Thank you for your wonderful pictures. You give us all a great education with your photos and descriptive words. Keep 'em commin'!!
Magnificen capture, Piet!. Wonderful lighting! Hugsss. Delia
CIAO!!WOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!SUPERB and really a incredible capture!!I love very much this excellent shot with this beautiful Rhino!(In Italian "Rinoceronte")Stunning colors and fantastic warm light! Also this time you realized a big masterpiece my dearest friend Piet!Thank you for sharing!I wish you a happy day and a wonderful week!A big kiss and a big hug!!
A truly magnificent animal. So prehistoric yet so simple and adaptive. Rhinos have always been fascinating creature to me. This one is very nicely photographed to show off its best features. Great photo!
Awesome capture of an equally awesome animal, very Impressive Piet Stuart
never knew ther white actually means wide-mouthed. thanks for sharing both the wonderfully crisp image and the information.
What a great capture here Piet! I'm impressed..Congrats! :)
Sjoe! Hy's werklik pragtig Oom Piet!
You get this close to them? Fence or no fence? What a beautiful shot.
awesome......and dangerous as well SUPER SHOT
An impressive and massive creature. It is a joy to see it through the eye of your camera. I'm sure it is even more magnificent in person (from a safe distance, I'm sure). :-)
Not the most even tempered beast around....I don't know if a tele would be far enough for this guy...How nice that these run free and so close to home...I can't remember the last time I saw a rhino alive...Aloha~
Spectacular ! Imposing creature so well captured.
SIGH If I had a dollar for every rhino I saw in the wild ummm well I wouldn't be rich but I would have a some $ not much though ;)Excellent capture buddy! I so wish I was there to take a few pics too! SIGH Thanks for sharing though!
My immediate thinking was; how well is a little safari truck going to hold up against one of these guys? He looks like he's built to take on anybody who wants to rumble! What a beast, perfect capture too!!
