The Chestnut-fronted Macaw is found in eastern Panama and Colombia, on western slope of the Andes to southern Ecuador, and, east of the Andes, eastward to Venezuela and the Guianas, and farther south to eastern Ecuador, eastern Peru, eastern Bolivia and through northern Brazil eastward to Amapá and Pará. It prefers seasonally flooded (várzea) forests, early successional growth along rivers, gallery woodlands, palm-rich borders of slow-moving rivers and swampy areas, second growth, old plantations and clearings with scattered large trees, temporarily or permanently wet areas with Mauritia palm stands. Its flight calls are rasping noisy screeches, higher-pitched and faster than other macaws and more grating than Aratinga parakeets. Also a characteristic gobbling vocalization. They feed on seeds, pulp, leaves and fruit. While this macaw is not endangered, it population is declining due to the urbanization and agriculturalization of its range.
