Now that the holidays have finally settled down, I'm back at work on my big illustration project for the year. I'm creating the artwork for a miniatures game that features cowboys vs. Zombies. For this, I will will need to create a handful of characters (both living and dead) and then use them to illustrate the book. Illustrations will include simple poses (like this), action shots, and -- for lack of a better way of describing it -- technical illustrations that show how the rules work. As shown before in my gallery, this is an M4 cowboy character. I'm still experimenting with his outfit (I can't find a good sheriff's badge that renders the way I want), and the techniques used to convert my renders into line art. This time I did a quick and dirty conversion, using the Threshold adjustment to create the dark shadows, a basic outline around the figure, and a variety of effects in Flaming Pear's India Ink plug-in for Photoshop. I'm intrigued by the effect I got on the face (allowing a little gray scale to provide some details), but am not sure if I'll use this in the final book illustrations. Also, I tried a more exaggerated expression on him, and it just doesn't work. I was really hoping that the inking process would make it look cool, but in this case he looks like he looks like I've got the morph dial set to "Jonah Hex" at 50%. Background is just some stock art from the Internet and converted to line art by using the Stamp filter and adding a little film grain. --------------- Rendered in Daz Studio 4.6.
