Description

I'm finally starting work on a large illustration project I've been putting off. Creating b&w line art for a miniatures game featuring the cool genre of cowboys vs zombies. For this project, I'll need about 6-7 cowboy characters, a few women, and a handful of zombies (everything from shamblers to undead cowboys to "rage" zombies). I've been collecting a lot of models and props for a few years now, and I've been working on my technique to create usable b&w line art for the book. It's finally time to just dive in and get started. This is my first character study. It's the Michael 4 model with variety of props. For the first image, I just wanted a simple picture of him sitting quietly. I'll add more clothes and weapons for the next render. CREATED in Daz Studio 4.6 from a toon render (it provides the variable-width outlines) and a standard render. I then used a combination of techniques and filters (threshold, torn edges, hand-drawn outlines) and Digital Pear's INDIA INK filter to create the basket weave/woodcut effects. The background was created by combining stock photos and using threshold and other techniques to convert it into line art. NOTE: This really looks better when viewed at FULL SIZE.

Always nice to have a project in mind to give some structure to our work, something I am currently lacking. Good luck with this project, sounds interesting, and different from most of the images I run across at RR.
