Description
This guy is looking out of the window above a garden restaurant in Alt-Luebars while smoking a cigarette. The reason he is looking out of the open window is because smoking is no longer allowed inside public places.
Alt-Luebars is one of the 'Rundlinge' surrounding Berlin. 'Rundlinge' are so called because of the arrangement of the farm houses. The individual farm houses usually form an oval around the 'Dorfanger', a grassy area with a village pond and a small church. The entrances of the houses face toward the inside. The purpose of this setup was for defensive reasons.
Luebars, Hermsdorf, Tegel and Heiligensee all have similar vilages, all are in Bezirk-Reinickendorf and all are slightly over 800 years old, as is Berlin.
In Luebars is one end of the Bus Linie 20, now 222.

Superb capture my friend. God bless.
Exquisite image,
Cool shot and very interesting. You can't smoke indoors public places here in the US anymore, either.
Very interesting info. thanks for sharing the info and the great image.
Nice scene ! Great capture !
Shining shot.
happy to see this building was not destroy in world wars? cool shot
fine shot!
I hope he did not have thrown ashes and cigarette butt out the window! Wonderful capture! :)
@jocko500. Jock I don't know if this building was destroyed during the war or not, most likely not. It is located on the outskirts of the city and bombing was concentrated to destroy industrial targets in the center or the heavily populated areas.. Most of the old, historical buildings, located in the former Soviet sector of the city, were damaged and/or destroyed during the war, and, until the fall of the 'The Wall' were in need of restoration. That's one thing I noticed this time here, all the buildings looked well-maintained, even the ones in the former Eastern Sector.
Sneaking a smoke! Like we used to do in cub scouts.
Germany has strange laws! All drinking in public, then beat their wives drunken on the mouth, but when it comes to smoking, one is almost treated like a leper ... With this image you have captured just that!
great candid capture and very cool infomration
I feel badly for smokers who have been legislated into being criminals. Next thing you know people won't be able to run around naked anymore!
Great shot!
I like how you have candidly included this person in a shot which is very good in its own right. I also think your info is first class Sig.
I do not much approve of this in people but if they want to put their life in gods hand sooner to each his own great shot dude.
great capture and interesting informations
An excellent candid :)
I like the details on the building, and the guy hanging out the window to have a smoke gives the grand architecture a more human feel. Great compo with the bare tree, too. A wonderful image! I had to laugh at Wayne's comment. :P
Yes, in the summer the villages look much more beautiful. Here a conversation with the neighbors is still out over the garden fence. The village green Luebars I also know.
It took be a minute to find the smoker and I am amazed that this building could be that old. A wonderful capture and information!
