Description
This waterhole in the Kgalagadi is "protected" by two resident jackals. The one on the right is one of the residents and the older gal on the left came for a drink. The younger male attacked her and although I was terribly upset by it, I soon realized that it was way more "bark than bite". After kicking up dust and trying to intimidate her, he backed off and she drank water in peace. She then hung around and they left her be!
This is the kind of sightings that make me stay at a waterhole for hours because if you just stop by and leave if there is nothing happening at that moment, you miss these interactions that are priceless.
Thank you for stopping by and for your very welcome comments and favs on my last upload "Cuteness".

A lovely action shot and you can certainly see the dust fly :) did they settle the dispute and she got to drink ? I'm guessing she did :)
So well caught, and also fascinating
Superb capture Carin. God bless.
Looks like my boys when they are competing for tid bits. Super capture Carin.

Women always get their way!! Lovely shot Carin.
A wonderful sight well caught.
There are be protocols in the wild...the resident must just be doing his duty as he sees it. Great shot.
WONDERFUL WORK
How amazing to witness these things! Looks like there was a lot of snarling and yipping; glad no blood was drawn and that she got to drink. The hierarchy of canids is fascinating!
Awesome fighting capture, Carin! Maybe they need my Bella to calm them down... :)) Oh yeah, she's a fighter!
Very cool capture! From this view, it looks like she's putting her paw on his forehead and saying, "Peace be with you! I must drink!"
What is often referred to as "territorial imperative" by ones in the know, Dierbaar. Very typical of animals, including us humans, especially when food and water are in very short supply. Anyway, good shot.
Great action shot. Don't know if I'd have the patience to wait for hours, but I'm glad you did...
A truly amazing capture.
What a spectacular action shot! But then, a guy will do just about anything for a pretty girl. What do you bet he tried to get a date later on.
WOW! I would watch there for days at a time! A fantastic shot!
