Description
Old cold stone steps leading to the Papal Chapel and then out of the Papal Palace at Avignon.
Unlike many medieval European castles there were not that many stairways in the Papal Palace. Even a big theatre like the chapel and the audience chamber were only connected by two stairwells, this being one of them. Still they must have been quite the site when they were lit only by torches and not the modern electrical lights. Handrails would not have existed making for an easy "accidental" slip and fall on the slick rock.

cool pov on the steps Roxy, would not like falling down them. would be a bitter ending.
Very nice shot!
This is one very cool capture Roxie, I really like the pov you went with here. I have a feeling many people fell down them over the years.
Great capture and POV! I love the use of the human figure, it gives the sense of distance
Another excellent shot of something most of us would never imagine... Thanks for sharing these amazing images Roxy.
agree with Neto, amazing pic!
You have a great subject for manny shots. I watch out what will come next. Each time well done and good info.
Nice photo!
Fantastic image my friend!!!Bravissima! :DDD.Hugsxx Whylma
I say make all castles a homeless shelter and put it to good use and make it unpopular to be so decadent!
Brilliant photo
Very cool view I would venture to say that the steps were a bit intimidating back then
I don't really like stairs even with handrails, gets my vertigo going. I can imagine in the day that they were treacherous indeed! Great shot!
The archway details are repeated here – I would think the walls of this entrance would have been as richly decorated as the main chambers – must have been very impressive (or decadent as abreojos said)!
Excellent! Love those arches. I feel a little vertigo just looking at this. The idea of walking on slippery steps without the rails is rather scary. Especially in the winter, I imagine they could even freeze up.
excellent
Firstly, I love the leading lines here, drawing your eye to the doorway to the outside. The repeating pattern of the arches is wonderful as well. What is really amazing is the exposure here - usually a hallway like this; even illuminated with lights winds up being underexposed. And if it isn't, the area outside, and the first few feet of the inside are blown out with little detail. Not so here. Another excellent capture, Roxy!
Beautiful shot, great POV love the framing and B&W!
Very nice capture my friend! Have a wonderful new week!
A good place for ancient thugs to hang out and cause trouble!
