Description
Bryce is famous for its hoodoo formations, and I figured I should post at least one of that sort of thing! So here's my obligatory hoodoo shot. I liked this one because it looked sort of like an old city with castles and towers and whatnot.
Bryce is basically a mesa, or plateau, that is eroding away at the edges. The hoodoos are shorter the farther away from the edge of the plateau they are because they've been eroding longer. Eventually the entire plateau will be gone.

the cool thing about these is that by the time they are gone, we will be VERY long gone. But for the moment, we will enjoy the beauty that is before us.

It seems like looking at a lot of little figurines from a chess set, in the process of carving and to be completed ready for sale ... LOL But on a serious note, the colouring of these 'rocks' is very similar to our Ayers Rock (in the Aboriginal language 'Uluru') and the Olga's in Central Australia, but nothing quite as spectacular as this vision ... it blows my mind! ;)) BB
I think you've just upped the ante with this shot. I mean, I have yet to do my obligatory hoodoo shot, but then I'm in the midwest and those sorts of things just don't hang out here. I suspect Chicago would be a lot different if they did. What I find ironic about this is the fact that it's quite an inspiring photo. I saw it days ago, thought to comment on it, and found myself scribbling notes for a story instead. Dragons, you see, prefer environments like this, but they aren't your average dragon cliches, either; there are very species-specific reasons for that, there's even a word for it. Imagine that! Anyway, after scribbling the rough impressions of what may (or may not) become a story, I've returned to the photo that acted (and acts, even now) as a muse! WOW! What an amazing shot! I love the colors and the idea that this is transient art of a sort. The kind that only Nature can produce. Excellent shot. And if this is an "obligatory" hoodoo shot, you've nailed hoodoo photography perfectly. WOW!
