Description
I knew it would happen sometime
It was inevitable that it would
Still the knowing did not make it easier
When it happened as it could
I went to see him yesterday
My mom had said he asked for me
But when I got there to see him
He could not see me
He was lost; lost in the fog
Not dead but still not there
He was walking down the hall
I said "Hello Dad,"
But he did not hear my call
No smile, no touch, no pause
My Dad is now lost; lost in the fog
My dad has suffered from Alzheimer's for over 7 years now. He has been in a special home for almost the last two. He often has trouble knowing me, but yesterday was the first time that I could not make him recognize me - at all.

I am so sorry to hear this. Of all the diseases out there plaguing mankind, Alzheimer's is surely the cruelest on of all. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers
I know your pain...my father suffered from this also. :-( Take care of your Mom. PM if you like....sometimes it helps to talk.
This is very touching. Strong picture and words.
This is such a touching image and it's hard to deal with such a situation. hugs
That is so sad. Having been a carer in an Aged home.. I know the pain you must be going through. As ladylake says.. take care of your mum.. she has lost her partner as you have lost your dad. It is such a cruel disease. Take care and I'll be thinking of you and your family.. keep strong. Big hug... Ohh.. yes.. it's a great picture full of feeling and sadness.
I'm sorry to hear about your dad, It's slowly happening to mine. He is just too old and refuses to give up on anything so he ends up with too much on his shoulders. maybe you could try to instead of getting him to remember you stick around and try to get to know each other all over again. It sometimes works but not always.
This is sad... That is a cruel fate for your father and for those of you who love him. My heart-felt condolences for your family's loss.

Roxy, I'm sorry for this day. It's a very heartbreaking moment when it comes. My grandmother had this disease and it was difficult when it came for us. My mom cried so often because her mom could not recognize her anymore and so did I when I didn't see the light of knowing who I was in her eyes. big hug A beautiful and poignant portrait.
