Description
Another shot from Gold Hill the most famous street in Shaftesbury in Dorsset, a town full of quaint corners and superb views on the edge of a 700-foot plateau. This ancient cobbled street, running beside the walls of King Alfred’s abbey which sad to say very little of this remains.

Wonderful lighting and pov
Danny, I've been off of rosity most of the last several months, and I've also been away from your stunning gallery a long time. Tonight I'm only stopping at one image per gallery, so I can see everyone and wish a Happy New Year; but I hope after the 1st to start seeing more of your wonderful work. You remain---as this image attests---a master of both camera & postwork, and you meld the two into beautiful wholes. The light that greets us midground draws us into the picture; the slope downwards feels like an invitation to a world of memory (as you say, but a little of the town is still there); and the textures & hues on the roofs and walls are beautiful & wholly intimate. And of course the background valley shines forth in nostalgic shadow with just enough detail to tell us there's a whole world down there---of which we're only getting a glimpse. It's a beautiful shot, nostalgic, and glowing gold. And the foreground detail is a very rich contrast to the vast background. (Lots of 'lights' in your road...) Happy New Year to you, and I hope to be back here more after the 1st. As always, your work is steeped in thought & heart; a genuine pleasure.
