The redwood forests of northern California are a favorite vacation spot for me. Those giant trees are so majestic and peaceful, and of course ancient. I love walking through the groves and absorbing the quiet.
Photographing them is a different story. They're so big it's impossible to really convey their size. Maybe someday I'll get that 10-22mm lens and see how well that works, but for now take note that Deb is standing at the bottom of this shot. These are big trees.
Thanks for stopping by and any comments.
Today I added a lighthouse gallery to my site at SmugMug. Take a look if you're interested.

Showing Deb in the pictures really gives us a sense of the enormity of these redwoods. This is one of my favorite places to visit, too. This is a very nice photo of the trees.
Gorgeous shot! I love all the green and the trees ... Here in upstate NY, the leaves are turning, which is beautiful, but it means the "dead look" of winter is soon on it's way ... I love spring most of all, so this shot reminds me of that ... Beautiful capture as always :)
Beautiful shot...
Great capture Dennis. I have to agree using Deb for scale really does show their magestic giant size!
Great shot. Magnificent giants. I haven't been there for a long time.
When I see pictures of redwoods, I'm always fooled into thinking they're the same size as Doug Firs. My brain just can't wrap itself around the idea of trees that big, even though I've seen them in person, and I know better! Awesome shot. Thanks for including Deb as a reference!
Thanks for reminding me of this wonderful place. Wife and I and our little ones visited there in the early 1970s. Is this a grove in Marin County...Muir Woods maybe? Did you try a shot straight upwards? This yields some unusual perspective problems but is kind of neat...particularly for folks who have never been there. Bill
Now you ARE in my backyard--and boy, do I know what you mean about trying to portray how HUGE these trees are. Just walking among them is humbling.
Mother Nature has a way of putting us in our place...even subtly. A marvelous shot of the towering trees and the insignificance of our presence there.
Super huge trees. I can imagine their age. Excellent. Aloha
Wonderful capture.
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wonderful capture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ROBY ;o)
Spectacular trees! I have never seen these :(, though I have seen their southern cousins - sequoias. They truly are majestic. Thanks for sharing...
Wonderful capture!
Astonishing! I once spent some time in a grove of ancient hemlock trees. They were not nearly so tall, but their air of wisdom and serenity was incredible. I can only imagine how this must feel. Thanks :)
Been having computer problems, sorry i am so late Awesome capture Deb gives a beautiful perspective of how big they are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
