Description
The corbeta (corvette) 'Uruguay' was built at Lairds Birkenhead, England in 1874. It is world famous for rescuing the Swedish Antartic Expedition in 1903 after their ship the 'Antartic' sank.
The 'Uruguay' is now moored in Puerto Madero, Buenos Aires and serves as a museum.
The high rise buildings in the background are part of the Puerto Madero Shopping District and the red brick buildings along the waterfront are wharfs and warehouses that have been converted to boutiques and restaurants.
This picture was taken on 26 November 2006.

sehr schöne Ansicht!
Great POV ! I like the composition, the old with the new. Lairds at Birkenhead England has a great Shipbuilding history, only one hours drive from where I am. Nice to see this beauty very well preserved and serving as a museum on the other side of the world.
Beautiful Corvette! Fantastic shot, Sig...she's a beautiful ship. Thank you for sharing her!

A wonderful shot, Sig, so much history here. Excellent work. Diane.
What a beautiful and historical ship, Sig and captured with a wonderful backdrop. So happy its now serving another useful purpose. Excellent shot.
Wonderful capture of this historic ship Sig but there is also so much to see beyond the ship itself. The ship is fantastic with its three masts and the funnel so it had steam as well as sail power. I love the crows nest and how it looks like a rum barrel and lots of other details as well. Beyond the ship the dock crane and love how it is being used as an advertising board, the tall modern buildings, the one with the pyramid top looks like the one on Canary Wharf in London UK. The rows of houses with the unusual draw bridge for the upper windows, I find very intruging. A very busy image Sig but one I have found very enjoyable to look at, and I haven't finished yet. Superb work. Bravo!!!!!
Very well done. 5+.
