Description

Just a quick photo from on the road... If you ever travel Highway 80 between Cheyenne and Laramie, Wyoming you will see this "point of interest" in between the westbound and eastbound lanes. It is a lone tree growing out of solid rock. The last time I stood here was sometime in the mid-50's when my dad was stationed at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne. I was 8 or 9 when Dad stopped the car at this spot and we all got out to admire this wonder of nature. The tree was considerably smaller then. So was I. The memories of those days came flooding back as Jo snapped this photo of me - and an old friend. I think I remember someone else posting a picture of this tree some time ago - probably Richard 😁.. Thanks for stopping by, and for all your wonderful comments and support!

but yet one can fertilize, water and care for a tree and it dies. others will grow against all odds. I wish that I was in Wyoming. anywhere except Texas! Wyoming probably has started to cool off by now.

thanks for sharing this memory and a "stone cold tree!" it was not me that posted it before. been to Laramie and Cheyenne, but not in between them

you are very brave to stand so near a tree so vicious it needs to be behind bars!!!
Were there any tear tattoos on its face??

a sweet photo, Rod---kudos to Jo---with a very western brown tone and those beautiful soft-looking boulders (I realize they're hard, but the moss and other growth makes them look like big whole wheat dinner rolls, or big brown pillows). The tree is almost like a huge bonzai, in its leaves. And a big "montana sky"...I hope you both have a wonderful trip---I saw, in Mike's gallery, that you were visiting Mike! That's great---we all see that you two are like brothers. I hope you 3 have a terrific time, Rod (or 4 or however many there will be). And the same for the rest of your trip. I'm glad you're getting away at last, and I hope you come back better rested than you've been in a long while. A lovely shot, and all my best to you, Jo and Mike. Have a terrific time!

It must have been so amazing when it was not in it's pen and the land around it was emptier--of course like you, it was less impressive then! :D
