Nope - taken from the visitor center. It's a $500.00 fine to fly a drone there - very illegal! 😲 Besides, it was way too windy.

I have a 12 oz. pickle jar on my bookshelf that is 3/4 full of ash from the Mount St. Helens eruption, courtesy of friends who lived in Portland, Ore. at the time. The house tops and cars and the ground were covered in several inches of ash and they decided to bottle as much as they could and send it to friends. . . wasn't that thoughtful (LOL). Even the sky down here in the San Francisco Bay Area had a brown tinge to it for a few weeks. Glad nothing blew up on the day you were there! Hope you're having a great trip.

Not much of it was left after that blast. I recall wiping a quarter inch total of volcano ash in a week period or more several times. Cool pano shot my friend. Hope u and Jo are enjoying Mike and his state. Gonna swing by fae valley?

Nice capture--too bad it wasn't a day with those nice fluffy clouds...when I was visiting Oregon and Washington, I just couldn't bring myself to visit MSH...I so dislike looking at destruction--seeing it from a distance was enough for me. Folks should notice just how long it takes for nature to heal after an event like that...the trees are just babies...I noticed that at Yellowstone---many years after that horrific fire, the trees were still quite young...have a safe trip back home, and, if you have the time and have never been to Yellowstone, try to spend at least a day there...

I've been to Yellowstone a couple times (once as a kid with my folks), and it is indeed an unforgettable place. One day isn't nearly enough - a week isn't enough, really. So much to explore there. A return trip is definitely on my bucket list.

Did you see Elk? Elk with collars that will close the roads and form a pathway across all 4 lanes so they can saunter across the highway in peace?? we didn't either. Did you see bald eagles gracing the skies?? We saw that, and miles and miles of Heather!

Guess you will just have to jump into your time machine, Rod, to get a really decent photo of Mt. St. Helens. Still, it is amazing to see what is left of the site at this point in time. Marvelous photo and reminder of the power of nature!

First, don't worry about being 'late' with comments...I've been late for days on end, and other artists also can only get here at certain times. Everyone knows you've had a ton on your plate, so you have nothing to apologize for. Second, I voted for you for AOM (writers, and digital comics---the first time I've ever seen the two combined---and it's a great combo!) I know there's other talent in the group, but the work you put into your series, in both amazingly detailed and beautiful visuals, and your always gripping, funny, entertaining and well-plotted narratives with dashes of tongue-in-cheek and fine storylines deserves all the votes you can get. If you win, it would be 2 times in a couple of years, right? You deserve it. I truly hope you're honored!

As for this panorama: I gotta tell you, if I didn't know MSHelens was back there, I wouldn't notice its absence: I just luuuuv your detail and your sweep. You get such detail, beauty, balance and sweep with that 6D, and the multi-hued landscape really shows its variety (full size is a MUST!) And you arranged it so that that huuuuge valley is the center of the shot, with two high shoulders on either end. It's magisterial, Rod, and from all the landscapes I've seen of yours, this is pure Rod. You do these landscapes so well---they're monumental, and yet gentle. Don't know how you get both feelings in one shot, but you do it often. And the clouds---softening the mountain in the background---is a worthy picture in itself. (Did you shout to MSH, "I come 2 gazillion miles to get ONE SHOT of you, you #&$@((!!!!, and you couldn't blow those clouds away for 2 SECONDS???") I love this. And those splintered trees on the left are beautiful, as are those patches of jaundiced green across the valley. Terrific, Rod. You have a whale of an eye.

Great panorama. The peak seems hidden by all the clouds, but all the gray soil in the middle ground is certainly left over pyroclastic flow. Interesting how the water carves away so many channels.
