(This scene takes place right after Mab is told the story of "Cubes and Kings" and before the Van Artell and Water Park stories!) Cadet Mab had absorbed all the power of Dahn Bossik's Ownership cube! Now he was determined to also free Dahn from Bay Tellis's control! Dahn had been Bay's slave since he was five years old, and now that Mab was Dahn's new "Master", he was putting his own need for privacy aside to try and help his fellow Cadet have some kind of life on his own! "I Can't believe the Quartermaster gave us a room in this block!" Dahn said as they walked down the Academy hallway together. "When I told him we needed new quarters because we were becoming bunk-mates and you were in a single, he practically chewed my head off!" Mab sighed. How did he get himself in this situation? "I've been rooming by myself! We can't share my bunk-room! It only has one bunk! It used to be a spare broom closet!" Mab said. "But, Master! He said no changing rooms, until you came and talked to him!" Dahn replied. "I have never seen anything like it! You stood right up to him!" "Dahn, he wanted you to sleep on the hard floor!" Mab answered. "I know Quartermaster Tom was angry we talked to him this late, but it had to be done! I told him that having you sleep in a single wasn't acceptable and it would look strange!" "Master Mab, you were looking away! You didn't see how his eyes suddenly glazed over and he started smiling at you! The next thing I knew, we had a really great room!" "Dahn, please stop with calling me Master!" Mab said gently. "As far as I am concerned, you are a free person!" "No! No, Master Mab!" Dahn shook his head. "You said I was free to do whatever I wanted, but only the Guild can truly free a slave!" "Well, let's just pretend, shall we?" Mab said. "I am not a slaver or in the guild! So just consider me a friend, Okay?" "If that is what you wish, Master!" Dahn replied with a smile! "I mean, Sir!" "No! Your the Sir! Your Academy rank is higher than mine!" Mab reminded him as they walked into their bright new bunk-room! "I am glad the Quartermaster's gone! I was afraid when we stepped out to get our stuff, he would change his mind!" Dahn said. "This is really a nice room! Much better than Bay's, and he's rich!" "Well!! Finally I can put a new shirt on!" Mab said as he started unpacking his things "It seems like I have been running around shirtless for months! No more Auto-fit shirts for me!" Mab and Dahn hurried to get their things unpacked and stowed, as it was almost lights out! Mab wandered if he could make this work? Being alone was natural to him and Dahn was quite a handful! Would he be able to adjust and keep Dahn a free person? Or would Bay or the Slaving Guild try and take away Dahn's new freedom?
