Description
This is a redo of an old render I did January of 2019
I've gotten better, i think. Here's the original: https://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/the-lady-aryll/2857407/
That original took four or five days, rendering on the CPU. This new one I cut off at 46 hours and finished up in post. The hair catches a lot of light on the upper part, and leaves lots of white pixels. I think it might have too low a texture size for such a large render. (4,320 pixels tall!) IDK. I only know it's the same spot that took it so long last time. This time, I let it get to 91% and decided I could probably fix it.
Which I did by running a denoiser. Then pasting the base image over the top, and just gently erasing the sections where it was wonky, with the eraser set pretty soft. I think it worked out, and probably better than if I went in and tried filling in the pixels by hand.
Anyway. There's two spotlights, and an HDRI. I changed the pants, added a belt and sword. Used my updated version of the model. Played with the eyes so they take center stage. Basically just applied a bunch of stuff I've learned over the last almost two years of using the software. Also adjusted her expression a bit so she was smiling slightly.
What do you think? Better?
By the way, you can find the first adventure with Aryll here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CWVK8YK
There's three books out, with two more planned.

Love the mood in this image. Now wonder what she plans on using that toad sticker on?
The lucky ones.
The unlucky ones get lit on fire.
(Thanks!)
Beautiful mature lady
Thank you.
Pretty character....
Thanks! She's from my book series, The Chronicles of Golide.
Awesomeness !
Thank you. I got to get my wall printout updated now.
This one is better, so I'd say you've learned a thing or two. :)
Thanks, and I agree! I love the reflection in the window, and the way the sun catches in her hair. Gives her life that the other didn't. Plus, I've improved the base model by quite a bit. So THAT'S awesome.
Have a nice dayl
wonderful character - excellent
Thank you traces. I trust you are having a good week?
Would make a great movie watching these images render? No. I wouldn't last! LOL! Beautiful character and marvelous presentation! Most excellent creation! Now 3-D print her out and lets have a party! I think she will be the life of the party!
I would love to 3d print this. Thanks for the comment! Always a pleasure.
Nice render, and yes, with that kind of soft and dim you get a lot of fireflyes and noise! Doing all only on CPU (as I have to do it too, since a certain Daz update that requires OpenCL 1.2 and my older GPU just supports OpenCL 1.1) it can take ages to finish such a render. Therefore I was really surprised, that my last render (caught on the open sea) which is rendered 6000 px wide just took about slightly over 1 hour to finish. But there you are: I just had a single direct sun light, which renders way faster (especially if there are no indirect lighting effects, where the bouncing light rays have to be calculated).
Thanks! Makes those new 30xx GPUs look even more attractive, huh?
Wow amazingly beautiful! Stunning artwork!!! 👍🙋♂️
Thank you! Have a great evening.
Great character and render!
Thanks!
Very nicely done.
Thank you very much my dude
Awesome!
Thank you! Means a lot to hear.
What a wonderful portrait
Thank you. I think so too. Hope you are having a lovely day.
wonderful! love the light on the back of her hair!
Yes! I think it was worth the extra render time. Thank you very much.
Nicely done!
Thank you.
Wonderful image, beautiful portrait, once again excellent work!!!!
Aww, shucks. I just try and do my best. Thank you
Lovely portrait.
Thank you very much.
Super work Lyle, really well posed and lit. Would say more but I'm typing one handed with a cat on my lap!
I just had to shoo my cat so I could get all caught up with replies/comments! Thank you for your feedback
Beautiful portrait work, love the lighting my friend.
Thank you, my friend. It was challenging to decide where it needed to come from to "make sense." I think I did all right. You have a lovely weekend.
You did an excellent job on this portrait!
Thank you! That means a lot to me. Not much point in doing a rework if it isn't actually any better! Have a good weekend.
Interesting image .
Thank you very much.
very effective pov and a beautiful lady
Thank you.
she's nice, great hair
Thank you. That's "Fanta Sea" hair. It's great, and once you've got Mesh Grabber, maneuvering it around elf ears becomes so much easier.
Bloody outstanding work on this scene. She looks fabulous.
Thank you very much! bows
this is so amazing ... the image resolution is impressiv ... this rendert a long thime ...
Ah, yes. It certainly did! But I feel it was worth it. Because this will print up at 30x45 centimeters NO PROBLEM! Thank you for your feedback.
She's a beauty despite her ears ! 46 hours ? My goodness, you're patient ! I stop any render at 2 hours...
Thanks! And yeah, luckily I had no other urgent need for the computer, though it does make me want to get a second machine up and running as soon as I can. For the BIG projects.
Very nice. I like her very much. ;-)
Thank you. I'm so glad!
wonderful portrait
Thank you!
Hope you are having a fantastic Sunday!
Very lovely redo on her. This version does seem to "pop" a bit more - she looks a little warmer, and more 'alive.' Great job on this, good sir!
It's quite revealing sometimes (most times, actually) to go back and do a re-run of previous work. You've illustrated that fact beautifully here.
Aww. Thank you. I think I must have done well - 29 comments and counting! Most I've ever gotten was 31.
I've loaded a few old scenes up for some reason or another, and had to shake my head, trying to figure out just what I was trying to accomplish. Some might even be worth fixing. One in particular, i can remember getting really frustrated by the lighting - and now I know the headlamp was on! No wonder. Just might have to redo that one at the very least!
I am humbled by your kind words, Sir RodS
A sword belt!!! Where did you get that!
That is from the Renaissance Sword Pack. Sword is from longsword for Genesis 3. I adjusted it to fit. It has adjustments! Thanks for being comment number 30! I don't know why that makes me happy, but hey. I won't knock anything that causes joy these days.
