“So,” snapped Astra, “I am your Goddess, little man, am I? The one you dress up for, the one you pray to here in this tatty little temple? And what does your Goddess want of you, do you ask?”
Victor cowered. Astra’s eyes blazed, and there were places deep within them that he just didn’t want to go.
“On your belly, you worthless worm! What use are you to me? Whining about your little troubles, crying for trivial favours, decking yourself out in pretty robes, drivelling on through all those meaningless routines, repetitive boring worship choruses and empty rituals you insist on carrying out because you say your Goddess demands them!
Am I deaf, that you repeat every chorus a dozen times? Am I stupid, that I do not understand what you say the first time?
Oh, you are so right to grovel, worm.
Grovel now. Lower! Lower! How can you appreciate the powers of your Goddess if you do not suffer exquisite pain?""
