Description
Andrea mentioned a program she watched last week that mentioned the scablands in Washington State. The last time we were through there and stopped to take pictures was in October of 2014, so I went back into my files to see if I could find a representative shot for her. This place is about 225 miles, a four-hour drive, from where we live in Washington.
This picture was taken a little ways down the road from Dry Falls, and the orientation is looking south and west. I don't usually take big landscape pictures, so I was happy to find a few shots I took from an overlook. That's the Sun Lakes State Park campground down there with all the trees, with Park Lake and the Channeled Scablands beyond.

I know that she'll love this - great photo
I once worked with a woman who owned property in the Scablands so I know a lot more than I should about the area. Quite a vista.
This is a very interesting part of your State with amazing formations. I had a look at the video and was very impressed though I think they could have found a better name for such an amazing place. This is a very beautiful capture of this lovey place. 😀
Very nice photography :
Great shot Hon. It gives a real feel for the vast, rugged expanses there. This place is a must see for visitors to the state of Washington. Must agree with npauling above, she makes a very good point:-)
stunning view and capture
Thankyou, Tara, most enjoyable! In the programme it was explained that the English Channel was formed in exactly the same way.
a beautiful shot.
Beautiful capture Tara.
Such a strange collection of shapes and objects. Your low sweeping capture of the land has all the values you put into all your landscapes: fine tonal balance, fine shadows, fine atmospheric 'dissolve' (the gradual dissolve of deep space upon a landscape, sometimes interpreted as 'mist'), fine balance between open and cramped spaces...your sense of tone is painterly, and it helps pull this grab-bag of odd mounds and protrusions and flat lands, etc, together. Looks like a tough place to get a good photo, and you embraced it. With 2/3 sky on top, which brings peace to the whole. I really like the feel of this shot. And full view is imperative. (RR is now playing tricks with zooms: Sometimes they're right, sometimes they're small. And apparently it happens on some computers and not on others. I finally dragged the pic onto my desktop and opened it there: It's got sweep and grandeur, at 100%.)
This is a spectacular view - what a shot, Tara! The depth is just breathtaking!
This is indeed a fantastic landscape and the video tells why it looks like this. So very interesting. Thank you for sharing this.
Great shot and love the info/video links Thank you. I might be driving through that area next summer on a vacation. It will be nice to know what I am seeing. :)
I didn't know that place in Washington State. Wonderful.
