Description
The cannon, etc. in these parks are placed where the batteries were on the actual day of battle, so this gives some idea of how close Dunkard Church was to the action to be called into service as a hospital. The "solar panels" which kept distracting my attention are actually markers for the units that were in those positions. IIRC there was a lot of confederate infantry in this locale to support the artillery. The Cornfield is about a mile or so off the right of the image.
Just in front of this obelisk monument is a gazebo monument to a Maryland regiment/brigade/buncha soldiers fighting for the Union. This close proximity speaks to some pretty hot action. (This day, however, was very overcast and a distant valley was shrouded by rain.)
The visitor center is about a quarter mile behind us as we view the image. (OK, who turned around and looked out the window behind them? It figures.)
Enjoy; thanks for viewing.

Great long distance shot - wonder if the cannons are used to call the faithful to the church services now.
Well, Mike. I'm sure we've all heard of the Canons of the Church, but I'm not so sure about the Cannons of the Church. Ya got me.
Outstanding Work,
Interesting to compare with the photograph taken in 1862, looks like you could have been standing in the same spot!
Shows at how short a range battles were fought at the time. Nice photo. Gives us a good idea of the place. And thanks for the history! :-)
Loving it, the church is so near to the battle though!!
