Union Station
Washington DC
Random people walking through the train station the other day.
Union Station is the hub of our visit here in DC. Our lodgings are three blocks away, and the bus that takes us everywhere we want to go is only a block farther. It's where we dropped our rental car when we arrived, and where we will pick one up when we leave. Union Station is like Rome ... all modes of transportation lead there. It's a major taxi stand, a subway hub, and of course a railway station. City tour buses load and unload there. Metro and Circulator buses stop there as well. After walking all day, we can even eat there! Right inside the door on the main level is a Mediterranean place that is at the top of my list.
Yesterday we spent our time at the National Gallery of Art. Walking back to the bus, I stepped on an invisible (to me) drop in the sidewalk, and crashed to the ground. I've got a sore knee and a badly skinned elbow, but nothing seems sprained or broken. Uneven surfaces are a hazard to me, since I have limited depth perception and don't see drops of an inch or two. Unless there's a shadow or some other clue, everything looks flat. I'm exceedingly careful, and Bill helps me with steps and curbs, but every once in a while shit happens.
Today I'm taking the day off and staying home. Bill has wandered off to the Air and Space Museum, so you know he's having a great time! I figured he would want two days there and I would only be able to do one day, so this is his day to play with the planes at his leisure. We'll go back another day, I'm sure.
There is SO much to see here! We'll be in Washington DC for a total of 2-1/2 weeks, and I'm sure we'll barely scratch the surface.

I really like these classic old buildings and am glad we have been able to preserve some of them. This is a great slice of life image.
Like the way you've added a living dimension to a wonderful hall of granite and marble. It sure is a lively place. Today there was a former NASA Astronaut signing autographs right in the middle of the grand hall. Wonder what tomorrow will bring?
The red banners sure give color and some depth to the photo. Nice you got the pair in the photo (and not a gaggle of folks!). Looks all marble to me. The architects at the time had a very good sense of esthetics (unlike todays!) and the people ordering the buildings, too. Grandiose, could afford such beauty, unlike todays. This kind of architecture is made to last. And, wishing you a good recovery from that nasty fall. As you say, much to see in DC. Hope you can see more despite the fall. :-)

It's been many, many years since I've been to D.C. But it's good to see the T.N.A. Gals left it (relatively) undamaged from their time there! LOL I think the last time I was there was in the 4th grade when my school spring tour went there. My dad was stationed at Dover AFB, Delaware, so it wasn't too far away.
