Last summer I went over to Jimbo's to get something to drink. As I passed the gas pumps, I noticed the activity. the scene explains itself and the title!

What an unbelievable find and outstanding capture.
A lesson for the mantis:
Country mouse visits his cousin city mouse. City mouse tells him that when he crosses the street to move quickly and don’t stop. As they cross the street a car comes by and runs over country mouse’s tail cutting it off. Country mouse goes back to get his tail when another car comes by and runs over his head.
Moral: Don’t lose you head over a little tail.
The frustrated lothario in the foreground is the lucky one.

I have only ever seen these in the wild when I lived in California, never up here, despite introducing egg cases to my garden. Lucky you to spot this bit of wild nature! Cool capture!

Beautiful photo! And all by mere chance to see while passing! So many others have commented the "winners" fate, and so on, so I'll just mention having one sneak past the screen in my room in 1963, entering my toy cabinet and spending the winter in my slinky box. Came spring and mother wanted to get something in the cabinet. Out comes this long, very thin, semitransparent mantis. Stretches and looks around. Mother gave it a saucer with water. It drank long and deep, and started to turn a bit greenish. When it was satisfied, we let it out. The vines on the wall probably were rich in insects for it to eat.
