One project seems to lead to another... It the process of trying to create renders from my Nightjars I found there was a serious lack of 3D nocturnal insects, so I decided after creating the nightjar set to embark on some moth models. In the process of looking at moths, I found these amazing "Giant" Moths with 5"-6" (12.7-15.2 cm) wingspans. Needless to say, I picked 4 species and started recreating them in 3d. Of course, these giant moths are more than a meal for my nightjars so I guess I got sidetracked... lol... maybe I'll eventually do some smaller ones, and maybe some of the caterpillars, too. Cecropia Silk Moth (Hyalophora cecropia). Females with a wingspan of six inches (160 mm). It is found as far west as the Rocky Mountains and north into the majority of Canadian provinces. The larvae of these moths are most commonly found on maple trees, but they have been known to feed on cherry and birch trees among many others. Rendered in Poser 2014 without postwork.
