"NarieFah, today you must fight as a Dragon Archer." Caleya paused and scanned the skies before continuing. "I know you are skilled with a bow, but learning to fight these demons takes time. For now just follow my instructions carefully. These fireworms can be brought down with a single arrow through their heart. That will be your target but I will tell you when to release." NarieFah asked timidly, "Caleya, where is their heart?" Caleya smiled and poked her in the chest saying, "same place as yours, you will take the first shot and I will guide you." It was not long before one of the fireworms turned to attack them, it flew swiftly and grew rapidly in size as NarieFah tracked it with her bow. The fireworm seemed to be almost on top of them and she asked anxiously, "Caleya, should I shoot now? Caleya replied "No, not yet". Suddenly there was a bright flash of light and her arrow burst into flames. NarieFah got frightened and in a panic she threw her bow to the ground. Caleya quickly drew an arrow and took the shot. The dragon tried to flame them but Caleya was faster and her shot was true. The fireworm turned, but not quickly enough, and the hot arrow tore through its wing. Enraged, the fireworm arched its neck around and for a second time tried to flame them, but it had already flown past the tower and the flames missed, one wing passing over them. NarieFah couldn't understand what had happened and she was afraid Caleya would be mad. But Caleya was laughing and said, "So, I see you also have this new magical power! But you must learn how to control it before you burn up all your arrows! Watch, I'll show you how." Another fireworm turned towards them and Caleya took aim, she let the energy flow into the arrowhead and it started glowing. When she released, the glowing arrow left a green trail in the sky. NarieFah said, "that was so beautiful! Caleya I have never seen green fire before!" Caleya replied, interesting, before today it has never been this color. I had assumed this magic was part of the vendetta, but now I wonder if it is really part of the magic protecting the eggs. That would explain why it has been awaken in you. NarieFah, I have studied the ancient manuscripts and in the very earliest accounts the protectors of the lost are called Green Archers. I wonder if that is in reference to this green fire. You may be correct about the couriers, they must have stayed to protect the eggs and became these Green Archers - and now you are the first Green Archer in 1000 years" NarieFah said, "You are the first, I am not even a Dragon Archer." Caleya replied, "you will be before this day is over!" With instruction from Caleya, NarieFah quickly learned how to control the green fire and she marveled to see the flaming arrows streak through the sky. It was clear the fireworms did not like these glowing arrows and they made hard turns to avoid them. Sometimes they turned away early but on those attacks the arrows did not come. Caleya and NarieFah made every shot count and the battle lasted for a long time. But their supply of arrows was limited, NarieFah ran out first and when Caleya drew her last arrow she shouted, "We are Dragon Archers of the realm! Let no one say the Archers have abandoned their ancient oath. For with our last arrows, we defend The Lost until the end!" ========================== Scene setup and rendered in Octane Render 2.17. The flash and the arrow trail was added in Photoshop, but I did use an emitter light in the scene centered on the flash.
