Description
For those of you who need to know where this is:
East side of the Sierra, just north of Bishop, looking across a place called Round Valley off Highway 395.

It looks like this might be a good way through the mountains, but it isn't. It's country like this that makes you think about covered wagons and the Oregon Trail.
Yosemite is a ways to the north, and Tehachapi Pass is pretty far to the south. Between Tehachapi and Yosemite is a whole lot of nothing, as roads go. There's an impenetrable wall of mountains, even today, for the more than 200 miles between Lee Vining, where you can cross at Yosemite, and Mojave, California, where you can pick up Highway 58 across Tehachapi.

Beautiful but rugged and unforgiving country which brought a lot of sorrow to a lot of people. Glad you had the RV.
Wonderful view there were some very hardy and determined men, women and children.

This is a beautiful view of the big empty; I've only been to Yosemite once, but I've been through Tehachapi more times than I can count, hot and dry in summer and dangerously icy in winter. I often wonder how the wagon trains found their way through the mountains too, very easy to make a deadly mistake!

I know right where this is; spent some time at Mammoth back in the day and even went to the town of Tehachapi years ago. It is pretty desolate country; not somewhere you'd want to break down or get lost. I always wonder about those brave souls in their covered wagons---taking their whole families and making that huge trip to find a better place--wow!!
